Crossing the line can incur a maximum of $10,000 fine but fortunately there is a bridge so people can get over it.

I don't understand. I see couples embracing in public all the time. Has that become illegal or something?

I did notice the guy standing on the line. In fact, I noticed that before I noticed the girls. I had to study the image for some time before I decided it must be about the girls since I couldn't see anything else wrong. I applaud the original poster but the guy wasn't actually over the line, just on it and I figured that was within the margin of safety. Not that I would ever want to stand that close.

The purpose of this irrelevant photo, is to sensationalise two girls hugging and perhaps about to kiss, implying a homophobic attitude. But its just about a guy crossing the yellow line. I'd rather read an article on a fireman rescuing a cat from a tree. We all talk about being non discriminatory, yet this journo uses reverse psychology to raise that topic.

So he has a foot over it...big deal, he hasn't stepped right up to the edge and leaned drunkenly over it....even if he did, well his fault if he falls over isn't it.

Too much nanny state already. He chooses to be confident and ignore the suggested distance, his lookout.

I think the only line that has been crossed is that Stuff have published this as being newsworthy. To me it is click bait, as with much of what gets published these days. If the photo was to show the person on the line in the background, they would have cropped or zoomed in on that in the photo. When infact there are potentially other lines, crossed, including the fashion one with the guy in the pink shorts.

Completely missing the point. The photo is highlighting prejudices in society, it's nothing really to do with the girls or the line, just highlighting what people pay attention to when asked to study the picture, I am not sure what noticing the guy in pink shorts as the feature of the photo says about that.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I think there are different definitions for "Over the Line". If this was rugby and his foot was the ball and the line was the try line (I now, lots of if's) that would be deemed "Over the line" and a try.
If it was tennis and his foot was the ball, the line the side or back, on the line is "In" not "Over"

Perhaps the line shouldn't be so wide as to become ambiguous as to who's on and who's over. Especially with $10,000 fine. This could be just for "Revenue Gathering"

The $10,000 is for trespass, as in on railway line itself.
