We live in a 1 bed in Longview Apartments on Symonds St, on the Grafton side of the road.

It's really nice and spacious (62 Sq metres), came with 1 carpark and storage unit. The bedroom is big for apartment standards, nice kitchen (was non negotiable for my partner who cooks and needs the space to store the kitchen utensils) and it also has a walk in wardrobe. You do get the odd noise from students on Friday/Saturday nights but nothing major. The location is really handy to transport (buses).

UFB is also available smile

I visited a friend of mine staying in the statesman - that building seemed to be quite a nice on to me (at least on the upper floors).

My sister was living in the New Horizon apartments in Parnel (maybe i got the name wrong, its on the corner of augustus terrace and fox street). Those were very nice apartments indeed.

TeaLeaf: well it beats commuting 1:25 each way. dont get me wrong, where we are is gorgeous in comparison, but one thing syd and vic taught me is there is no good long commute time.  regardless of what you can do on a bus/train.

buying isnt an option. i dont buy anything unless it has appreciable assets, ie land.

So you don't own any cars or any electronics?

no i meant i dont by any "property", dont like apartments. each to their own. they are a lot more popular now than 20 years ago.

rent depends on the property i guess 1 bed about up to $650. seems to be a lot of 1 beds around that price. but the majority seem to be around $530. anything less tends to be a studio.

Some Apartments must go up in value, because the last time I rented, I had a 3 bedroom really nice new townhouse in Grafton for $500 a week rental and you are talking 1 Bedrooms for $630.

That seems quite affordable.

We pay $350 a week. I reckon we got an excellent deal and our landlord is a lovely guy.

We're not in the market to buy but we'd certainly look at a place in our building if we were.

Geeze that is good value. Not saying id pay $630 for a 1bed, well i might depending on the property lol. but more likely $535. The grafton area ones are still really good value if thats what one is after, no sure about facilities and onsite management though. The closests i saw to Gratfton was Eden Terrace and was $430 for a 1 bed. But was very claustrophobic.

Anything below $400 and not a studio in a good complex is a bargain.

I noticed there was a 2 bed in our building to rent, fully furnished at $600/week with carpark, a bit too much IMHO.

Our building manager is really good too, another handy thing is that although there are 12 storeys in the building, there are only 4 apartments per floor, making the apartments decently sized.

We did see a few places in Eden Terrace, small lounges and kitchens, the only good decently sized apartment was in a building on Great North Road opposite the Jetts gym just before Dominion Road, but I see half of the building is shrinkwrapped now because of remedial works due to leaky building undecided

yeah its the furnished ones ive been looking at. could save a frotune as i have spare furniture, nothing classy but not rugged. of course they will take the person who wants it furnished over unfurnished.

inner city lliving, 30 years ago we were trying to escape it haha. i think its a good thing if they make them classy and homely and safe.

I had a friend who lived on Princes Wharf and while his apartment was really nice and well set out, with a great view and balcony etc, it had a major flaw...the restaurants and bars around the area emptied their bottles into a recycling station near the apartment...usually around 5.30am.

That's not fun when you are sleeping through a hangover. It's no fun any time, but especially then.
