Jase2985: the systems rely on someone manually scanning items thats where the issues lie

And also the OP's item is going through another two other delivery companies to get to an RD address as well, not just NZ Couriers.

And they wonder why NZ has a productivity issue....

Turns out it was in the depot all the time. Where it has been since Saturday. Going nowhere.

It's not a productivity issue, it's an economical one. The small volume of rural delivery parcels doesn't make it worth it for NZ Couriers to deliver so they pass it to the smaller Post Haste who in turn will deliver it to Coural (who the RD drivers contract to) if it is further out than Post Haste go. It's all in the numbers.

richms: I dont get why couriers dont do urban residential deliverys between 6 and 9 pm when people are actually home and would be there to sign for things.

Maybe like the rest of us they like to get home and dinner at a reasonable hour and see their families

Given we have one of the best performing economies in the OECD I am not sure where you are getting this idea from

Perhaps however NZ is often cited in the Press as having far lower productivity than competitors or than it should.

[How do these people stay in business?!]

As you live in the country, there is only a small population, so fewer complaints about service. The Wairarapa is even worse, as everything is so slow over there. Getting work done over there is often referred to as 'Wairarapa time', in that eventually they will get around to it. I built a house over there and the builders and subbies were just so slow, it ended up taking nearly 2 years to complete it.
If you go into some businesses, and even the council offices, it is like stepping back 20-30 years.

Totally agree with that. Putting a parcel on a van between here and Wellington out to be possible though!

The council offices here are an uphill challenge. A whole drawer lacking sharp knives, as it were.

I agree. Why not have shift work and deliver on Saturday and Sunday as well?

The implied argument of yours is laughable. We might have one of the better growth rates in recent times but that's largely on the back on immigration and the Christchurch rebuild. An economy that ranks 20th out of 32 OECD countries for per capita income just cannot on any objective view be classified as one of the best performing economies in the OECD. And this country does have a well-recognised productivity issue and it's been documented by the likes of the Treasury:  http://www.treasury.govt.nz/publications/research-policy/tprp

You have a very obvious tendency to be extremely argumentative over issues. This is all the more disturbing when the facts are so often completely not on your side.

What's this "the OECD documents" you're talking about? Link? You do realise one of the core indicators of productivity and health of an economy is indeed the per capita income? This is elementary, high school stuff.

Dear Mr Geektastic,

We are happy to hear that your package has arrived, and in record time!

We are very sad to report though that 3 hampsters, 1 pigeon and a rat were killed/died/misplaced in the duty of delivering your package, but at least the dolphins survived intact.

As your package has arrived we have despatch new hampsters out to the branches to alert them that they can now cease searching for your package and return all the original hampsters back to base.

We are still missing 2 hampsters, so if they are still tied to your package we would be most grateful if you could please release them and point them in our direction.

Our gestetner is now working again so we are all franticly catching up on our xeroxing whilst enjoying the delightful fumes coming off the pages...

Thanks again for using our excellant service.

Kind Regards,
NZ Couriers
