Quite. And they are too high and go up too often.

I also like people who complain that $20 is too much to courier something they just paid $500 for or complain as if I have no costs in acquiring packaging, spending time packing it, driving to the nearest courier drop off and so on in addition to the actual courier ticket cost - all this after bidding on something for which the postage costs were clearly stated.

Just to update, I found out the store I was dealing with are actually a 'Trademe store', which has special terms for those sellers. The thing is that trademe do have a a clause in their terms of the following, for these trademe stores.

"You must demonstrate a commitment to selling through Trade Me and not incentivise or solicit customers to transact with you outside Trade Me."

So by selling some goods at a higher price on trademe, than on their own website, they maybe possibly breaching trademes own store terms. Although this would probably only be in the case if they did actually admit they were charging more to cover their trademe costs. But as far as I see it, they are incentivising buyers not to use trademe, by having the products cheap on their own website.

I think that was put in to deal with all those shops using that OMINS piece of S software that would spam you with offers after buying one thing off someone.

It amazes me that trademe still lacks a way for a seller to amend an invoice, combine things and then pay by credit card once they have sorted out combined freight and any changes to quantities etc.

It leaves sellers with BS shipping options like "Free shipping with another item with greater shipping" on something, so if you buy that first then buy something else. Oh dear, have to bank deposit. So slow, not getting stuff tomorrow.

I have asked the store to refund the difference, as the thing is that most prices they are selling items for do appear to match between their online store and trademe, so it doesn't seem as though they do intentionally charge more for trademe listings. So it looks like it maybe a problem with them syncing the pricing on some items, and not updating them on trademe.

I do think it would be odd though, if trademe allowed a proper trademe store to have intentionally have higher pricing on trademe to cover their commission, because otherwise after the first item you buy, people will just go to their normal online store cutting out trademe. They then get it cheaper by going to the other online store, even though trademe are the ones who introduced the customer initially. This will then be a relatively small commission if it results in other future sales. I think trademe stores are more designed for stores that don't have any other online presence.

People dont just go to the store. Some people are so silly they will hit buy now on something 10 times if they want 10 of them after seeing that we had 10 packs listed, and then want to only pay the price for the 10 pack.

People are dumb.

People would go back to trademe to buy things that they had bought off us before, despite us emailing them a 10% discount code if they came back to us directly. But then go and email us the code after buying on trademe.

people would do pay now on all the stuff and then email demanding a refund on the shipping on things because they didnt think it was fair. Even tho we listed things that we would and would not combine because some were pre-packed by slave labour (friends kids) into courier bags already.

Yes I have had those emails myself. Trademe really need to sort this thing out better I think. They maybe better not to charge large stores commission, so there is no risk of them charging those trademe users more, so people continue to shop via trademes website directly . Instead charging a monthly fee based on turnover or something along those lines. I think trademe may turn into something like shopify eventually if they can get their shopping software up to spec.

Am I being too harsh because I can't see how you have been deceived or tricked, you just come off sounding a bit whiney.

No, it is about the store morally doing the right thing for their customer.

For example, If someone goes into a physical store and the item is on special, but the item itself hasn't had the sticker price reduced, and you pay for it, usually the store will say that the item is on sale and is cheaper. Or it will scan though at a lower price. They wouldn't intentionally (you would hope) charge you more because you hadn't noticed the item was on sale, and you were prepared to pay more.
However if they didn't tell you, you pay the sticker price, and then find out when you get home via junkmail, that the store had a sale on the item, and it should have been cheaper, then you won't be happy, and would expect the store to refund the difference. This is essentially what has happened in this case. Usually these days the lower price will show up in the till, but becuase they are using two difference online stores and systems, I pressume the different pricing isn't uncommon..

You would expect a consistent pricing of things when they are selling under the same retail brand, or an explanation if there was a pricing difference. I don't think venue makes any difference as most retailers sell via different venues and have consistent pricing. Even though online costs are probably cheaper than physical stores. I recall in the past some stores did used to have lower online pricing, than their physical stores, explaining that it was due to less infrastructure, but I don't think many stores do that these days. I don't think dynamic pricing is used too much in NZ.

How is this different that buying the same item at different prices from a retailer who has sub brands - eg the warehouse or warehouse stationery? You have chosen to buy through a retailer who has different sales channels. You haven't said they were deceptive, just that they sell things at different prices through different channels, which is presumably to reflect different cost structures.

The example you give is someone being deceptive, whereas it appears that you have buyers remorse for not researching the price differences thoroughly.

No I didn't say it was being deceptive, it would have been human error where they hadn't picked up that the product was on sale, possibly due to a computer glitch. Warehouse and WS are different brands , and probably different legal entities, and they cater to different markets,so it isn't a valid comparison. My issue is that it is the same store and same brand, not a different entity. You will also find that different brands often sell different product ranges anyway, which are to different markets. I don't have any buyers remorse. It is more about principle. If I really wanted to I could return the item for a full refund via their 7 days return guarantee, and buy via their other website which has it cheaper, as they are local.
I do occasionally find that the online pricing vs the pysical stores own prices can differ, but the store will always honour their online pricing. I haven't come across one that hasn't.

Huh? I can book a hotel on three different sites with three different prices.

And many places have a different online offer compared to in-store price. Some Charge you extra for paying with a card ...

Slightly different, as that is a service, not a product. Rates of rooms can vary depending on demand, day, etc.
