It's fair to say, I was wondering where the hell that infernal racket was coming from until I realised it was their site!

Dulouz:
wasabi2k: army surplus store - buy 10 pairs. done.

My local army surplus sells swastikas, bayonets and helmets but no decent socks.

Swatikas!

What sort of place is it?

I imagine a place run by a guy named Zed,  who rides a hog.

Used to make a habit of picking up a few pairs of Norsewear when passing through Norsewood.
When production moved to China, I chose to purchase elsewhere because they had built their reputation on being a local company employing local people.
I see the website still trades on the "Local" , but doesn't mention that they are now made in China.
I am not saying that they are not as good as they used to be, I just wish they would remove the veil.

Sames as Icebreaker. Except for socks (interestingly made in USA), everything else is Made in China now.

Actually Icebreaker moved offices to Oregon, so I guess they really a "global" company, not local anymore.

I wouldn't recommend either Kathmandu or Macpac for socks.

I've been through several poorly made pairs from both and they simply aren't worth the money

Yeah, a lot of "New Zealand" stuff is made in China or Thailand now, but I go back to my previous comment - if you want to "buy Kiwi" - Swazi is still made in Levin.

Trust me - Marks & Spencer socks from the UK are excellent. I have pairs getting on for 10 years old that are still in rotation. Often free delivery to NZ too.

These for example if you want boot type socks, with silver anti bacterial treatment etc etc.

freitasm: I buy Icebreaker socks. Wool. Made in USA with NZ merino. I buy Icebreaker on Amazon because it's cheaper than buying in retail here. And they ship directly.

The Icebreaker socks are quite nice. I picked up some ski ones from the Outlet store in Tawa. The prices range from $27-$40. Even though I don't actually ski they still work fine.

The problem with socks in NZ is they usually have two sizes - 4-8 and 8-12 (or thereabouts). If you're size 8 you end up with masses of extra sock which is uncomfortable. I haven't bought socks in NZ in years, all Thorlo, either direct or from Amazon.

Warehouse Darn tough, cheap but warm and soft and when they are stuffed throw them out and buy some more because they are cheap.

I wear them for work and a pair will last 12 months unless the dog get hold of them and puts holes in them.

At the end of the day they are only socks
