Then why did Missy sharpen a short piece of stick with a metal knife? How is that a better weapon? That makes no sense.

What was the point of hanging Clara upside down? That would be difficult to do and where did the rope come from anyway?

It just got worse after that.

This whole "I'll explain later" gag is getting a bit tired.

Sure, you can brush a few things under the carpet with sci-fi but it's just getting really silly now.

I still think it's the best thing on TV though.

Its a psychology trick and also you have to understand the Master from some of the very early pre-BBC wales series.

Not sure if I have mentioned this, but the series if what they call a multi-layer series, so each episode has several story lines (layers).  Its different for if one is used to linear shows where there is only one story line.

I did enjoy part 2 a lot more, although they copped out a bit at the end with "Haha, I knew what you were doing all along" and the T.A.R.D.I.S dispersal thing.

Part 1 of the under water one was quite good. However didn't they explain way back in "The Girl In The Fireplace" that he couldn't go back in time to manipulate events once he was involved (or something along those lines)?Yet that is exactly what he is doing at the end of this episode.

Overall though the last 2 episodes have been definite improvements from the awful first one.

I really enjoyed last night's episode (all of season 9, in fact).  This is big praise for me, because I mostly hated all of season 8.  I was amped for the new Doctor, but Peter Capaldi really didn't resonate for me as the Doctor.  I fully accept that the Doctor changes personality when he regenerates, but it seemed like he lost all his sense of fun and whimsy.  From the writing perspective, it was like the show was sacrificed on the altar of "darkness", and in the process lost all the joy, fun, and humour that had always been part and parcel of the Doctor Who series, even when they were being "serious."  I also didn't like that Clara was given such prominence and importance, to the detriment of the Doctor's character.

However, season 9 has been a big improvement.  I still don't really like Clara's character, but Capaldi's Doctor is growing on me a lot more, and they seem to be making a concerted effort to sprinkle humour and whimsy into the story (cf. last night's "emotional cue cards").  The only thing I really don't like is the replacement for the Sonic Screwdriver.  In classic Dr Who, the Sonic wasn't a permanent feature, it was only used by a few Doctors, and even then not all the time.  I feel that they have relied too heavily on the Sonic Screwdriver as a "magic wand" in the new Dr Who, and the latest iteration is a change that didn't need to be made.  My wife suggested it may have been done to give the cosplayers something to centre their 12th Doctor costumes around, other than "eyebrows."

Clara leaves at the end of this season..

Enjoyed the latest. Had a bit of an oldschool Who feeling about it.

Though I found the deaf woman who just happened to be around for the inevitable lip-reading was a bit too obvious.

I'm no so sure he's actually going to get involved; rather, go back and take a peek.

Oh, he'll get involved! It's more of a minor quibble really, as continuity has never really been a strong point in Doctor Who.

I do get a little sick of the Daleks and Cybermen coming back again and again. I'm hoping that they manage to go the rest of the season without bringing either of them back. The better stories tend to be the ones with one-off villains (or the first appearance of a villain).

Likewise.

Less is more I reckon.

I think they could have waited another few seasons before resurrecting Davros.

I'd also like them to actually surprise is with those creatures... like, back in the 1980s, the Cybermen made a "comeback" in Earthshock with the fifth Doctor; it was kept hush-hush. When the penny finally dropped that it was the Cybermen.. BOOM. Awesome.

Enjoyed the last episode, the doctor was finally funny again. Maisie Williams was a nice addition, made me want to watch GoT again though :)

Loved the latest one, my favourite so far.

Quite funny at parts too. The Doctor doing the "ooooooooh, IIII AAAM ODIN" thing cracked me up.

Would have been a good time to have a Sontaran on side!

And for those who aren't familiar with the "classic" series, there was a nod back to the third Doctor when he said "I reversed the polarity of the neutron flow!"
That line has been a running joke for years now; I've got the slogan on a coffee cup. Sciency-sounding gobbledegook.

Ok, so The Doctor is angry now.

I liked how he delivered the line. It's a small universe...
