MikeB4: The publication is out dated like it's founder and there is no place for it

Based on what ?

Based on its circulation which was over 5.5 million in the 70s, which is currently about 800,000 and falling.

I'd suggest a lot of magazines would consider themselves quite fortunate to have a readership of 800,000

I'd suggest it is not just playboy having problems. Magazines/newspapers are a dying business model. eg, I stopped buying computer mags many years ago.

The only time we might buy a mag or two is when on holiday and want something light to read on the beach.

As for playboys choice to stop showing lady bits, I doubt it will reverse the decline.

It is percentage change or trends that matter. Not absolute numbers. 800k this month, maybe 750k next month.  Maybe 400k in a years time.

I wouldn't think the employees at playboy would consider themselves fortunate.   Drop in circulation means job insecurity and stress, which means higher staff turnover and low morale.

It is quite possible playboy could go bankrupt.

I can remember when magazines took a huge chunk of shelf space in the likes of Whitcoulls ( with lines of ignorant magazine readers, not letting you near them) these days it is hard to find them in the store. The majority of
books shops it appears, do not stock magazines anymore.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I don't mind. I only read it for the articles anyway.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

A lot of them are moving to interactive electronic versions using things like iPad apps and the like, with varying levels of success. The price of them distributed this way has dropped somewhat too (e.g. Popular Science is only $2-$5 a month) making it something you can kind of set and forget and occasionally check to see if there's an issue worth downloading and looking at.

Ahhhh the good old days when I knew where my old man used to keep his hidden stash of playboys.

In later life after I inherited them though some of the articles that were in them really were worth reading.
