Sorry, I got nothing useful to say other than that.

It is a useful strategy to avoid places that cause you problems.

Your issue should be of interest to them so I hope that you complained to Harvey Norman before posting here. Whether your complaints are reasonable or not, you had an issue with the way Harvey Norman does their business. It doesn't really matter whether the staff member was ignorant, feigned ignorance, or was complying with some policy.

You were offered a price, didn't like the price so bought a different product elsewhere.
If this makes you upset, you must be annoyed at a great deal of things in everyday life.
Shop where you want, but folk, there's nothing to see here.

Next time buy from Noel Leemming. Last time I got them to match the price of another retailer, which they did. Then later the week they advertised it at a lower price, and refunded the difference as part of their price promise. Think you have 7 days to claim when the price is advertised lower.

I'm with Talkie on this. You are being unreasonable with your expectations.

I'll add a vote to the "unreasonable expectations" column.  However this dosn't mean that the HN Hamilton computer department are not a-holes:   I've been actively avoiding them after a friend (white as snow) applied for a job there.  The interviewer (also white) saw a place of employment with a maori titile in his CV and went on such a massive raceist rant that my friend turned down the job when they offered it to them.   I have no idea if that person is still employed there.

True, hence I've only avoided the Hamilton HN.

There are people who are just now realizing that HN is usually particularly expensive?

Who'd have known.

My "issue" with HN is they too often don't actually have the item in stock and you have to wait a while - like weeks. We bought a mattress there a few months ....and in the end it took them 6 weeks to deliver it. Similarly, last November we bought a quen sized bed and mattress and it also took about 6 weeks to arrive...and we had to chase it.

I may as well mail order the stuff myself than go to HN.....they just drop-ship from some supplier somewhere. They don't actually have  most of the stuff in stock.
