Hammerer: I'm disappointed with the quality of responses to the OPs original question. We're looking to buy some more and I was hoping to get some good hints. Am planning to visit Badboy Fireworks tomorrow.

Went to Badboys and got some fireworks to compare with the Warehouse. I'll try them tonight. They are a lot heavier suggesting they've got more powder/bang/colour for my dollar.

If you can recall, can you please give some examples of prices for the Badboys' fireworks? I can't see these listed on their website.

You pay for what you get.
They are pretty much commodity items, so you usually just go to the place that sells the cheapest. Super markets, warehouse type places usually sell box 'deals'. The thing is that they aren't sold for long enough to compare, and Consumer can't do a review on them either, because they are only sold for a week or two.

I don't have any problem with fireworks, as long as they are used safely and in the time period they are supposed to be used. But people buy in bulk, and use them throughout the year, and all times of the night. It probably breaches noise standards outside the hours/time period they are allowed to be used.

The fireworks are for our kids enjoyment aged 4 and 5. We bought a Reload box and sparkler box at the Warehouse today for $80

I bought fireworks from a popup store once and the quality was really bad.

Maybe most of them are ok but I never bought from one again.

So far the Bad Boys fireworks give far better output than the "equivalent" Warehouse spend. I didn't get to test many because they were too loud on an otherwise quiet and wet evening.

The tiny free firework we got went on for so long that I was reluctant to light the big one we paid $10 for. We might have woken/annoyed half the neighbourhood so it will have to wait for another night.

This is what I'm used to in Holland (although we don't do Guy Fawkes, typically I experienced Guy Fawkes in the UK to be similar to what the Dutch do on NYE)

We (20 of us) compared a lot of Warehouse and Bad Boys fireworks last night. The best value for money was usually clear cut in a category but overall there was not much difference between the two brands in price versus performance.

We found out that the good fountain we got for free from Bad Boys sells in a pack of 3 for $15 so it was a $5 firework which was why it is so good. Generally $5 a firework ($1 a shot) was the best indicator of a good display but even then a lot of $10-15 fireworks were a big disappointment.

Overall buying the bigger box sizes to get the largest aerial displays gave the best value for money because you avoid the smaller less effectual fireworks.

Key: BB = Bad Boys; TW = The Warehouse; XX = avoid

Non aerial fireworks are the better value for money. We had the most fun with TW Cascades - the little spinners 72 for $12:
TW The sparklers are not much different - TW is mainly gold coloured (ie cheap sodium) whereas BB has red, green and blue but the colours are not that distinct because of the brightness. The three fountains included in each pack were the main difference: TW was much better.
TW Spinners are the most fun - we had them spinning on smooth ground, in a metal bucket, in a large glass bowl, and thrown into the air. There was not much difference in the display and the Bad Boys spinners mad more noise but they had too many duds making TW Cascades the best value.
TW Small fountains are better value for money. But BB has the best if you are prepared to spend more.
TW Large fountains - TW were marginally better value for money.

Aerial fireworks were much more difficult to compare because there is such a wide range of displays and the two brands don't have many products you can match before you fire them. You can't look at size, weight or name to tell which will work well e.g. we thought the BB Tick Tock would be good to start with but everyone was disappointented. Overall, BB just edged TW.
XX Smaller/thinner roman candles were all a waste of money - avoid them entirely if you can because the explosions produce such small, pathetic sprays above you.
BB Larger roman candles have better explosions.
BB Smaller shots. Not much difference but quite consistently better.
BB Larger shots. We had one BB misfire exploding 3m in the air, spraying us with debris and leaving us all with ringing ears.
