Time Travel has been a staple of every ST: series, it has featured in Both Original cast films, and TNG films, and is the basis for the current reboot films,

I am fairly sure that time travel will play a part somewhere :)

sure, but Enterprise was basically just about time travel.  It got old real fast.  It would of been a much better show (I did like enterprise, hated season 3 though) without all the "Temporal Cold War" crap.

Funny, I thought season 3 was the best.

I started watching the animated star wars rebels series recently.  Mostly to see how easily they could whip up a story from that setting/universe that wasn't related to the main movie characters.  Answer was pretty easily actually, so new groups/stories/characters can work pretty well.

The thing I like about Star Trek is the self contained episode format. Imho it starts to fail badly when long story arcs become the actual subject of the episode.

When DS9 was network (might have been Sky) I tuned out when every episode became Sisko/Kai Win for the whole episode multiple episodes in a row with very little progress. I must get back to that one day : ).

Slow burn season arcs are my favourite type of storytelling.  But I can see how people have a certain self-contained-episode expectation out of Star Trek.  TOS and TNG pretty much pioneered that approach in the silver and golden age of TV.

I prefer a mix, a season arc, but with a few break episodes in between.  The time travel story arc of enterprise I just found dull.

As much as I love Star Trek, and I loooove Star Trek, I'd rather see a reboot of Stargate SG-1.

The trouble with time travel is you have to be very original to pull off something that hasn't been seen before or done to death.  Looper and Primer hit the right notes, where tons of their contemporaries have just rehashed the same formula over and over.  Same with Star Trek.  They've repeated the same basic premise so many times that it's a trope that holds no interest anymore.  That said you have to watch them just in case you miss something great :)

I heard there was a film reboot in development.

Please no more reboots, I'd much rather see the "next generation" taking over several years after the the previous crew, applies to both Star Trek and Stargate.

Yep x files with something new each week peppered with sister and smoking man moments.
Usually last and first episodes of a season deal with the long running back story and then magically that's forgotten about and we're back into the weeklies.

A common problem with arcs in scifi it looks like the writers get bored and just go through the motions to get to complete. The Shran/Andoran alliance arc that worked so well in Enterprise worked really well because it was not planned. Constraining the writers too much seems to lead to dullness.

reven: I'm just glad theyre doing something different than the Captain Worf thing, I liked Worf, but the Klingon episodes were always my least favourite, and you knew a show with Worf as the captain would have a lot of those episodes.

And please god no time traveling...

or psychics.. or people who keep emoting about lack of emotions.. or aggravating kids (to be safe- no kids)...
