I thought cheese was quite reasonable recently. Seems to be nearly always something for $7-$10 a block (bit more for tasty). Wasn't that long ago it was consistently $12-$15 (and  bit more again for tasty).

Still if I could pay $3 a kilo I would. Love me some cheese.

TimA: Just stop consuming cow products.
I personally believe it isnt healthy and when i cut it out of my diet noticed an immediate increase in many things.

I'd agree with that. We did the "Whole 30" diet for 30 days and you can't eat any dairy. We both noticed a big difference when dairy is cut out. Don't know how to explain it but we've since reduced our dairy in take once off the diet. Almond and coconut milk was the best substitute we found.

Ps man it was good to have some cheese after that diet!

I did a raw food diet for a few months, a few year ago. I ate almost nothing cooked, 99% raw fruits and vegetables - no meat, no dairy. I'd eat 1kg of fruit for breakfast, lunch salads, and dinner salads. I felt fantastic, lost weight, was in a great mood, but eventually got sick of just eating raw foods - especially going into winter.

jonb: Off topic, but Almond Milk is about 97% sugar water, salt, with 3% almond powder.  Better off drinking a glass of water and eating a handful of nuts.

I've noticed cheese seems to be getting more expensive again, based on a single sample size of a shop at PaknSave yesterday.

Almond milk is much better in smoothies etc (i.e. places you would usually use milk) than water though
Pure Harvest unsweetened, water, 7% almonds, brown rice, salt

keewee01: Ah... the great New Zealand Dairy Cartel

We try to help break it by using Danish Lurpak at home. Seriously, so smooth.

Lurpak is lactic butter - very little of that is made in NZ where most butter is sweet cream butter I think. Lewis Road Creamery butter is quite similar to Lurpak if you want an NZ version made by the little guys!

timmmay: Mainland tasty varies between $9 on a great special, $10-$12 regularly, or up to $16. It's annoying, so I stock up when it's cheaper.

I laugh to myself when you see Mainland 1Kg at say $10 and 500g at $6.99 and people are still buying several packs of 500g....!

trig42: And (IMO) the Mainland Tasty is by far the best of the Tasty cheeses (much sharper than any of the others in the chiller, Anchor included).
Mainland Vintage Tasty - that's even better.

Mainland Epicure is even better than that. It actually has the texture of farmhouse cheddar rather than waxy plastic..!

There is a depressing lack of organic cheddars in supermarkets - the few that are sometimes available are usually mild - which is really just a tasteless way to consume fat as far as I can tell.

I'm picky about cheese. I do look at price but it's the second thing.
Must have real aged cheddar.
Also a decent blue - Stilton is number one but there are also some excellent NZ blues now.

Squashy cheeses....have to say we like Laughing Cow.
Cheese, tomatoes, onions, couldn't live with out them.
