The medical wisdom seems to be that in the cases of infection etc the spider has not been positively identified.

Yeah I'm not sure they are aggressive. They are a hunting spider so maybe a bit makes sense.

I occasionally find them crushed from rolling over in bed, and no bites I noticed yet.

There are lots of daddy longlegs in the ceiling space etc so the odds are not good for the whitetail.

Why not irradiate it, let it bite you and then climb the Sky Tower?

One thing to look out for if you have kids... white tails seem to like getting under things. They're not going to build a web and sit in the corner of the room. If there are clothes left lying around, or books, toys, etc. on the floor (as there often are when you have young kids) these are attractive places for white tails to hide. They will crawl into a bed too, getting in under the top sheet.

I remember being told that the venom of white tails was not particularly bad, but that they carried disease

People say that about all sorts of creatures on the planet.

The truth is the most disease ridden are other humans - at least in your chances of being infected by something else.

It's a way of justifying often irrational hatred of the other species.

Spiders, unless you live in Aussie, are pretty much harmless to us humans. They eat an enormous amount of insects (and spiders are NOT insects themselves BTW), far more than birds do.

Gotta love them Aussie spiders

Let me assure you, I would not waste my effort on that venture if I had spider-like abilities :)

We get a few whitetails every week in our place - we live next to a bush reserve.

We spray them, then squash them, then leave home for a few days whenever we see one.

Don't spend a lot of time at home anymore.

That is good - duvets are not really meant to be used with one anyway...!

Not sure whether whitetail's bites are venomous but they really do hurt.  I've been bitten couple of times and been able to ID the spider that bit me as a whitetail.  Both times it really hurt and the bite took a long time to heal.
