It would be magnificent to see this statue. It'd be the height of mount cook plus another 25% or so.

Never mind that - there would only be 12 mountains in all the world higher than it! And if we built it on top of Mount Cook...!!!

Bzzzt! The top 14 mountains are over 8000m! http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777280.html
If you built it on top of Mt Cook it would be second highest. Still, you'd probably make a lot of money from running cablecars to the top. And/or guided mountaineering trips ($50K per go to get to the top of Mt Everest -- this way, it could all be done inside, in comfort, with 5-star hotel rooms at each "camp", and escalators). And put a great big wind turbine on top up in the jetstream to power the whole country.
Regretfully, the top of Mt Cook is a bit unstable, and you would likely end up with a 5000m long wreck below the Caroline Face.

I looked at this list.

Ah, I see.
Yes, a 5,000m statue on top of Mt Cook would indeed be the most prominent feature in the world (with the possible exception of David Seymour's idiocy). Just not the highest.
A 5,000m statue in Wellington (as proposed by Bob Jones) would be the 7th most prominent, but there be a lot more than 12 mountains higher than it.
Indeed, the same distinction applies to Mr Morgan, being somewhat more prominent than he is high. Or tall.
