Ironic that it was bootleg tape-trading that got them big enough to head off to Europe in the mid 1980s and they already had a loyal following.

(Don't worry, you're not exactly missing out.)

They're still my favourite band but it's really painful watching them flog a dead horse for the last 20 years.

Geektastic: OK. I know I am a bit unusual.

However, I wondered if this one was down to me or whether others share.

I have plenty of music in my Apple Music collection - enough to play it for days and days without repeating.

Yet I just spent 10 minutes trawling through it all completely unable to find a single album I wanted to listen to and ended up putting on a streaming radio station.

I find the music has to fit the way I am feeling at that moment or else it is intolerable and I MUST turn it off or change it if I am to be able to concentrate on anything else. Some music (e.g. rap) has that effect to such an extent that I will leap up and cross the room to turn it off or leave shops etc that are playing it because I simply cannot bear to listen to it.

Is anyone else that sensitive to it or am I just very eccentric that way?

I'm very much like this. I have about 700 CDs that I own imported into iTunes along with a few hundred more albums and countless singles that I only have in digital format. Yet there are days where I stare blankly at the spines of the CDs in the rack and can't see a thing I want to play, or I'll find myself skipping forward through 20 or so tracks on my phone until I finally land on something where I think "Yes, that's what I want to listen to..."

But there are a some tracks that no matter what I'm doing or what mood I'm in, I always want to listen to the whole track when it comes on. Most of these are songs I've really liked for a long time, for example:

Blue Sky (Allman Brothers)
While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Beatles)
Sky Blue And Black (Jackson Browne)
All Along The Watchtower (Hendrix)
Candy (Iggy Pop & Kate Pierson)
Black Hole Sun (Soundgarden)
Interstate Love Song (Stone Temple Pilots)
All I Want Is You (U2)

but there are some odd ones in the list though that are not my usual kind of thing and some of them are a bit cheesy, e.g.:

Let It Ride (Bachman Turner Overdrive)
More Than A Feeling (Boston)
Surrender (Cheap Trick)
Keep Your Hands To Yourself (Georgia Satellites)
Virtual Insanity (Jamiroquai)

I keep trying to remember what I was doing when these songs came out, to see if they are subliminally associated with some pleasant event that is triggering happy thoughts...

I've put my antipathy to most current music down to passing 40 and a log standing intolerance of anything that sounds overly synthetic, whiney or pitchy.

I have a different frustration - quality. Trying to find higher sound quality digital music.

I like and am willing to pay extra for high quality tracks but if you are a rock/metal fan you are out of luck.

I am frequently frustrated by the mushy sound in purchased MP3 files.

I've tried itunes and play ...

Loved that anthology or whatever one it was, where they added orchestration to George Harrisson early demos of while my Guitar Gently Weeps.

Without the heavy rock angle it originally took, it was pretty powerful stuff.

Stone Temple Pilots one takes me back, and U2 can give you the chills there with that one.

Always makes me laugh though at the discussions around Bono's seemingly deep lyrics that are pretty rubbish really. Makes for a good concert sing along though.

I'm enjoying Random as songs lately such as:

Seeing as this is turning in part into suggestions, anyone not familiar with the band Clutch should give them a serious checking out, my favourite albums are Blast Tyrant and Earth Rocker, their others are all excellent. If I'm really stuck for music that I'm going to be happy to listen to no matter the mood, then Clutch is the answer and usually enough to change the mood if dour.

If you ever get the chance to see them live you'll be in for a treat, I describe them to people as a band that makes you dance like no ones watching you in your bedroom alone when you're actually standing in front of a stage with a few thousand other people.

What genuinely interests me about this is how different tastes can be. I started the video but could not finish it. Some of the visuals were funny but the sound was the most godawful cacophony I have ever heard. It sounded terrible. I am sorry, but this is just not my taste at all. I don't only listen to classical but to my ear this was just too loud head-banging discordant metal music. I like Led Zeppelin, but I don't like this. I don't say this to disparage anyone's choice, I just think it is interesting that people can have such different opinions about something.

Not sure how much rock they would have but HD Tracks are worth checking out. Linn, B&W and Naim also have high quality files from their artists available on their websites.

All of those will have Studio Master quality downloads if you can find tracks you like.
