I just wished the previous tenants took the OP's advice and allowed for time after the move to tidy up.  Place we just moved into, the previous tenants literally moved out the day before, and stayed until 11pm cleaning it (rather poorly) apparently.  The place was still a mess. We're talking stains still in the toilet, dirty cupboards, fridge etc. 

Even the landlords tried cleaning up the mess on the morning of our move. Which makes me shudder to think what state they left it in.

We didn't have a choice really, our movers were booked for the date we agreed to with the landlord, and after living out of our suitcases for a month in temp accommodation with a small child (we moved to Dunedin from Auckland), we were really looking forward to setting up.  That excitement didn't last long.

One can only laugh about it now and chalk it down to experience...
