This is somewhat entertaining if perhaps a little bit extreme in what it thinks is happening - http://thespinoff.co.nz/01-05-2016/coup-on-at-mediaworks/

In other news Mediaworks shareholders were out celebrating one less salary this evening. A spokesperson said Barry's decision will allow the broadcaster to focus on content of interest like reality shows.

There is something going on at Mediaworks.

I'm suspecting that there is descent amongst the rank and file. First, Hamish Mckay left after 10 years in the role the other week, and now Hilary Barry is leaving too.

Are Henry, Garner and the Du Plessis-Allan dictating the direction of TV3, resulting in these long termer resigning?

An interesting (I would say neutral) take on the whole saga:

Or they're just abandoning ship.

There's something going on but it's not Garner , Du Plessis-Allan or Henry causing the problem - it would appear that they are all doing a pretty decent job (even Henry who I can't stand).

Since Weldon and Christie took control it appears that they have pretty much destroyed the work place culture. While it may seem amusing to say it doesn't matter if one person leaves when a business can't retain key customer facing staff it tends to fall apart. This appears to be happening at Media works .

I agree with the earlier Dick Smith comment. After the demise of TV 7 I watched TV3 news and current events. Now I have voted with my feet and moved on.

Whilst I am finding this meltdown quite entertaining, it is still very unfortunately for the NZ media landscape. Some would argue that Mediaworks never provided a spectacularly good news service, however until Mark Weldon took over I really believed that the quality of their journalism was not quite in the gutter that NZME, Fairfax and state television have been in for a long time. Radio NZ really is all that is left now.

Has anyone heard the outcome of the Mediaworks board meeting today?

According to the two well researched and credible sources, Stuff and NZH, everything is absolutely fine. They ambushed him outside the MoreFM building in Ponsonby and he appeared to have no stab marks in the back.

I do find it funny following the speculation over the last 4 days. It's like watching another reality show ala The Batchelor; everyone claims to hate it and doesn't want to see it, yet secretly everyone is watching for train wreck. Except instead of Naz it's Weldon they are waiting on to fold.

Wonder what Stuff and NZH would write about if there was no Bachelor... they must be soooo stretched deciding between 'news' and 'reality'

Mark Jennings replacement as head of news:

http://mumbrella.com.au/24-hours-hal-crawford-editor-chief-ninemsn-344383

Hal Crawford's background is online content and page views etc. The direction Weldon and the board are taking the business is kind.of obvious.

Interesting times.

TV3 is owned by bean counters. The death of the business was inevitable. Mark Weldon is a typical lackey of bean counters.

They have destroyed more businesses than anyone can imagine....through failing to understand the businesses they run.... and seeing only costs and revenue.

A rapid death to their business would merciful. I hope it isn't rapid. They deserve little in the way of financial mercy.

Personally I haven't really enjoyed any of MediaWorks' properties for a long time. Hilary Barry was probably one of the main exceptions - and now she has resigned. The news was the last thing I really ever watched on broadcast TV (everything else we use Netflix really).

I'm not surprised, they seem to have been circling the drain for a while. I'm not too sure they're actually ready to go down it yet though, to be honest.

What annoys me is Weldon tinkers with the radio stations in order to satisfy the bean counters. The one part of the company that's actually doing well, and he tries to mess with it? Dump that Scout garbage and make some savings where they should be made.
