I'm less than 2km from the centre of Martinborough, where there is a fibre line. No plans EVER to get it to my house according to Chorus!
A fibre line goes past our driveway to the school down the road but no chance of ever getting connected to it.
So we are stuck on 5mbps ADSL1.
