I really like the idea of the boxes under the bed and I just happen to have a suitable number of boxes that for some unfathomable reason I never thought of putting under the bed when I was looking for a place to store them. So yesterday I arranged them all and they fit perfectly. The cats love them. An exciting new forbidden space to try to get into. It didn't take five minutes for one of them to figure out how to shift a box to create the perfect man cave. I may have to fill them with bricks or something if I can ever get the cat to come out again.

OK, so maybe removing the legs of the bed is not a good idea. No circulation under the bed may make for an uncomfortable night's sleep. Why not compromise? Shorten the legs by half so the cat can't quite squeeze under while you still get good air circulation. If the cat still manages to get under somehow why not extend the cats legs using the sawn off bed legs so the taller cat finds it impossible to fit.

See if the changes stop them leaving dead things there. They dont tend to leave them in their play spaces or eating spaces.

A cat lover friend of mine told me that they are providing food for you. So, the plan is to find a way to satisfy that need, and to be stored elsewhere

That is the old Russian joke of how to catch the mice: "Quickly get them under the wardrobe, and then very quickly cut off the legs!"

Reminds me how I've used that once ages ago by forcing a rat under the potato storage box which was sitting on two planks of wood and kicked those planks from underneath.

My cat's favorite hideaway during the day is under the bed. He is not allowed outside the house hence there are no "gifts"...

We never managed to curb this behaviour, we would however get a warning as a muffled meow would be heard as she would announce her triumphant return with supper. I would get her before she made it inside and thank her for dinner explaining I was already full. This however did not stop the behaviour.

We had cats when I was growing up. Also on a farm. They caught rats, mice, rabbits, lizards, frogs, birds, weta, goldfish and even the occasional eel. Of course they preferred to eat their catch on a fabric surface - carpet, bed, couch etc.

We had two pet doors. Door 1 allowed them in and out of the garage any time they liked. Door 2 allowed them to go from the house to the garage any time, but not back in.

They had food, water and a couple of little bed-boxes in the garage but couldn't drag anything into the house.
