I opted not to accept the particular brand that they replaced it with, went with another brand (more expensive than the original) which they were happy to credit back and sell the new one (went from Whistler GT-438 to Uniden LRD950). New one hasn't yet exhibited any adverse symptoms.

I did wonder if it was something to do with the power but I had my satnav loaded into the lighter before the radar and the satnav was fine, so I doubt it was the power.

all sorted then.

My favorite win on substantial failure was when my father's BMW steering angle sensor went west after he owned the car for a year.

They said they wouldn't replace it

I pointed out that this disabled the stability control and the car was no longer warrantable..and therefore not drivable. Since the car was unable to be driven, and that a car that cannot be driven is, well, not a car, I considered this a substantial failure and would discuss with my father if he would prefer a refund or a replacement.

turns out they could replace the $700 sensor after all....
