I seem to recall another 'survey' a year or two back which claimed that Kiwis were amongst the most promiscuous nations as well....

they weren't when I was growing up tongue-out

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

JayADee:

Do the people in those films look happy to you? Who appears to hold the 'power' in those movies? Do you think the people in those films would 'choose' it as a career over something else? Even though they may 'choose' to participate in it, what you're watching is abuse and is harmful. It is exploitative.

Take out the word movie and substitute it for fast-food outlet for young workers.

Take out the word movie and abuse substitute it for my trade.

You think most non-professional people really get to 'choose' what they have to do to pay bills? The people that serve you food?  People that work in retail? People that drive trucks, make roads, clean offices, fit tyres, drive busses, work for councils?

You think all these people 'choose' those jobs over something else?

Porn actors at least had a choice.

Most profession in which males are a minority.  Senior people are likely to be female in those professions and therefore females on average earn more.

blakamin: What is wrong with porn?

Kind of like asking what is asking what is wrong with alcohol. Nothing, except where it becomes an addiction , as Nick Willis came out in public a while back.  .

I reckon he'd have performed better if he kept watching it and stayed quiet...

Edit: pun intended

I think he 'performed' quite well considering he won the election. Not to mention did what no-one thought it was possible under any circumstances.

Eh?

According to an item on RNZ, Kiwis are the world's fifth-largest consumers of pornography on the site Pornhub, which releases nationality breakdowns of its users every year. Not bad for a country of less than 6 million!

I must confess that when I saw the headline, I thought the thread would be about how we do so well at domestic violence....

OK, I am absolutely no expert on porn but I have seen multiple interviews over the years with actors in the industry and many (women) insist that it is their chosen profession and they do enjoy it. I can't judge if this is true or not but it is what people claim. I don't doubt that some porn certainly is abusive and probably should be illegal for that reason, but I don't see a problem with stuff that just shows people having different kinds of sex and enjoying it. Maybe it is also worth pointing out that according to the article I cited, 35% of porn consumers in New Zealand are women, also above the international average.

This.

Women enjoy sex too; people seem to forget that.

Sure, there's some that just do it for the money, and there's some that do it to support habits etc.

I remember reading about one fairly famous starlet who got out of the business and into the medical profession but the ridicule she got when she was recognized was so bad she just went back to the "movie" industry.

Then there's that "gonzo" crap which I just don't get at all. That's pretty nasty.
