I did not know the reason until today. I was a fan in the very late 80' very early 90s.

Where to get help:
Lifeline (open 24/7) - 0800 543 354
Depression Helpline (open 24/7) - 0800 111 757
Healthline (open 24/7) - 0800 611 116
Samaritans (open 24/7) - 0800 726 666
Suicide Crisis Helpline (open 24/7) - 0508 828 865 (0508 TAUTOKO). This is a service for people who may be thinking about suicide, or those who are concerned about family or friends.
Youthline (open 24/7) - 0800 376 633. You can also text 234 for free between 8am and midnight, or email talk@youthline.co.nz
0800 WHATSUP children's helpline - phone 0800 9428 787 between 1pm and 10pm on weekdays and from 3pm to 10pm on weekends. Online chat is available from 7pm to 10pm every day.
Kidsline (open 24/7) - 0800 543 754. This service is for children aged 5 to 18. Those who ring between 4pm and 9pm on weekdays will speak to a Kidsline buddy. These are specially trained teenage telephone counsellors.
Your local Rural Support Trust - 0800 787 254 (0800 RURAL HELP)
Alcohol Drug Help (open 24/7) - 0800 787 797. You can also text 8691 for free.

I am not sure if it's being reported more, or if it's just more prevalent, however, it's my feeling suicide numbers have increased in the past year or so. It's alarming.

Per capita suicide numbers would appear to be fairly static , but these figures just go to 2013 so there may or may not have been an uptick in the last year.

We had a relative who left her husband and he killed himself.   Never reported anywhere , was kept very quiet.

Personally i think there should be more talk about it.

Media reports he had a band around his neck, I wonder if he has a fetish that went wrong rather than suicide.....

Pretty sure they wouldn't have termed it suicide, it would have been accidental death.

I agree, but there are rules in NZ around what the media is allowed report in cases of suicide (I think relating only to those cases in NZ).

It should. Unfortunately some think that sweeping it under the rug makes it like it never happens.

I'm still shattered.

His music has been the soundtrack to my life Soundgarden, Audioslave, solo.... There's always been that awesome voice somewhere.

The Mrs has a tattoo of some lyrics I sent her years ago. It was a cover he did, but his version was better than the original.

I found his solo work a little too polished, but Soundgarden, Audioslave were a big part of my earlier years.

Just listened to the debut Audioslave album on the walk home tonight, some lyrics pertinent given the sad news - "I can't tell you why people die alone" Shadow on the Sun, Audioslave.

A waste, but also a selfish gesture and p1ss-poor example for other (particularly younger) people, and downright cruel to his wife (incl ex) and children.

Written by someone who has obviously never had depression.

sad you don't realise what depression does.
