Geektastic:

Somewhere in between those two is my generation (cue for a song..) which is Generation X (all those born between mid 1960's to the end of the 70's more or less). We are almost never mentioned in any discussion.

You are not the only one to have that thought, by a long way

https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=Gen-X+overlooked

I tend to think it's that "us vs them" is a simple distinction for people to make.

Boomers see "them" as Gen-X and Millennials (Y) both are "younger" than them and regard them as broadly the same compared to their own view, a single group.

Millenials see "them" as Boomers and Gen-X, both are older than them and regard them as broadly the same compared to their own view, a single group.

We Gen-X in the middle see "them" as both Boomers and Millennials, but clearly hose two groups are at opposite ends of the spectrum so as Gen-X we more readily and of necessity identify 3 groups than 2.

No-one likes them, so we're all ignoring them, hoping they'll go away.

That's exactly what a filthy Millennial would say. GET OFF MY LAWN!

Or, I want this and I want it now. Money is no object as I don't have any but I still want it now. I got it, now I broke it, I want another. Quicksmart

Generation X were characterised above all else for not giving a toss about anything (read: the 90's) so as you might expect the world moved on and returned the favour.

gzt: X, y, millennials, all marketing categories invented by advertising firms. Look it up.

None of these categories are useful for rational discussion.

Agree. Its about the time. No people born in these "gens" are any different. Its the period they were born on that defines it, not the people. People behave or react based on the environment. Darwin. That simple. Unless some have different jeans.... Straights, flares, holey...?

I think Generation X has seen life change a lot more than most Millennials.

For example, our parents remembered world war two as an event they experienced. A number of my school masters fought in it. We grew up when anything like the internet appeared only in films and the TV. We worked in offices with typewriters. We had no mobile phones. There was no such thing as an ATM.

For millennials the changes have so far been much more iterative than fundamental I think.
