I've got a glass keep cup as I'm not a fan of the plastic ones, but it does have the cork band which is very intolerant of any stress. Already been through one replacement.

I have two keepcups, both glass, one cork and one rubber band - just alternate between the two.

Hmmmm .... the one I had was a single cup and definitely came with rubber lid. I discarded the lid as the coffee shop was directly downstairs from my office.

I ordered one of the 12oz Longplay cups last week from The Nile, following the link to TM posted last week on this thread - they seem to have by far the cheapest prices (similar to the AU Keepcup store, but free shipping). Prices on The Nile’s website are similar (a few cents cheaper) to their TM listings.

I’m a big fan of the double-walled cups, which we always use for espresso at home - we find not only does the outside stay completely cool but the drink inside stays warmer for longer. Our cups are fairly fragile, so it’ll be interesting to see how robust the Longplay is.

Yep, same brand as the ones I buy, but I get the 250ml model (fits under the espresso machine's handle!).

I had a look at these - no lids.

I have five minute walk to work in Welly. On a windy day I'm thinking my coffee could blow right out of the cup!

The Bodum ones we've had, the seals of some of them failed in the dishwasher and the insides went cloudy - which is rather unappealing. I think I bought 8, only 3 remain unbroken, two of those are cloudy, so there's really only one good one left.

They're also very fragile and quite slippery. I have some of another brand - they're only about 75ml, and it looks like the holes are sealed with fused glass - rather than a plastic (silicone?) plug as used in the Bodum cups. None of the seals have failed in those, but they only get occasional use.

These were a great novelty when we bought them, but honestly I think they're probably better for cold drinks like a gin and tonic or a stay-cool stemless glass for white wines. Aside from lack of lids, they're way too fragile for car use. Spilling milk coffee drinks in cars has long term olfactory consequences best avoided, unless you're fond of removing and cleaning carpets etc.

Some serious $$$ being discussed here for reusable takeaway cups with lids. I'm pretty damned sure the ones we bought only cost about $10 on sale from Total Food Equipment in Chch, they're ceramic, have lasted for years with daily dishwasher use (including the silicone lids and sleeves) are tall enough and shaped to safely sit in car cup holders, but fit under the group of our Rocket espresso machine. I do remove the sleeve grips and wash them separately in the dishwasher from time to time, as nasty stuff eventually collects under the sleeves. I can't find them listed on TFE's website.

As for regular coffee cups, despite having a collection of cafe style shot/flat white size/ cappuccino and latte cups, I use appropriate size ceramic coffee mugs most of the time. The cafe style cups etc really only get used when people visit and I expect they think that cafe style coffee must be served in a cafe style cup. IMO, tea should be served in correct porcelain tea cups, but coffee - not so much. I also think that the bowl shaped cups were designed with intent to train wait-staff to walk gracefully and steadily, they look terrible if "the tide is out", and when filled are very hard to carry without some slopping over the edge.

Well, the Volere ones from Briscoes have no plug, silicon or otherwise, so essentially need to be hand-washed (and done so carefully) so as to avoid the void getting some water in it! Of course, with two scungy boys, it’s inevitable this happens and it’s a real b!tch removing the water. I keep on meaning to put a drop of glue gun glue on the hole to see if that works - does it need to remain open at all, or can it be completely sealed?

We find the size of the mid-sized one good for a single-shot flat white (sacrilege I hear some say!), and personally I like holding these types of glasses in the hand compared to a vessel with a handle. Agree with you on porcelain teacups for tea, though!

Anyway, I don’t use these for takeaway coffees; I currently use a cupofcoffecup one, so am looking forward to moving to a glass one as, while I like the lack of wastage with disposable cups, plastic’s not ideal...

We haven't had any of our bodum seals fail, and they always go through the dishwasher. I've found the stevens brand glasses better though - they are sealed with a glass plug (so go through the dishwaher no problem) and they have a large bottom than the bodum ones, so not quite as easy to knock over.

For the car, generally I use the Kathmandhu plastic ones (we put these through the dishwasher as well) or my KeepCup cork. Generally I try to get a coffee in me before travelling to work - especially when biking.
