There are many, many, many stunning sights to see in the world. I have sampled some. When I started this thread I didn't want to begin with a long list, which takes away from each individual item. The sunset I cited has stayed with me through the years, which is why I chose it. It was truly spectacular, unlike any other I have ever witnessed. But of course there are many other things. I sat in the Coliseum in the early 1970s and tried to imagine what the gladitorial contests were like. I wandered through castle ruins in Britain and was inspired to write a poem about them. I experienced the Great Barrier Reef before  the bleaching. I visited Romania when the shadow of Ceausescu still dominated. I rode elephants in Thailand (they were not abused) and visited the astounding ruins of the Bagan plains. There is so much more. But this is not an ego list. It is an expression of appreciation and an encouragement to anyone who ever wonders what things are like over the next hill. If you have an opportunity to experience some of the things the world has to offer, or you can create one, you should definitely do it. You won't be disappointed.

This thread has reminded me (not that I typically take these things for granted), just how fortunate I am to have seen and experienced these things.

a lot of things, just a few

 - south island summer/winter
 - national parks in US (in California, Nevada, Utah) all of them are awesome, and more to visit!
 - maldives (however I'd prefer undeveloped Tonga, Samoa (I wish I visited island before tsunami))
 - alps
 - Giza pyramids
 - Gold brick production for banks (get to hold just made brick 10+ kg)
 - Eminem concert
 - VIP safari in Kenya + Tanzania (sleep, well I could not go to sleep, 5 meters away from lions)

In my bucket list:

 - both polls
 - amazon and south amarica in general
 - Iceland
 - Alaska
 - Kamchatka
