Budget Milk, 2L blue top at pak n save Upper Hutt was $3.52 last time I shopped there. That's pretty good. I only buy Budget or Homebrand milk.

which comes of the same production line as the Anchor milk, just with different labelling , so you are drinking Anchor milk.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

which comes of the same production line as the Anchor milk, just with different labelling , so you are drinking Anchor milk.

My wife used worked at Fonterra for a while and she confirmed to me that they do bottle a lot of the home brands.

My taste buds tell me that the milk isn't all the same though; I have no information other than my tastebuds, but Anchor tastes as though the cream content is slightly higher to me. The home brands taste thinner.

A2 tastes very good (although I am continually amazed that they make no effort to explain what A2 milk is, or why a consumer might want it, on their packaging) and Puhoi Valley is my top pick - Half & Half if you're feeling especially devilish.

(Note - based on normal full cream blue top; I don't drink skimmed milks, as even full fat is 95% fat free. Except Puhoi Half and Half...!)

The real issue here is the price of milk in NZ compared to overseas. Either Fonterra is charging us exorbitantly or the supermarkets are. Either way their isnt enough competition within our food industry.

When the price of butter hit $5 I did some quick web surfing to some overseas supermarkets to find that ours was the highest price of all.

Its all very well to say that we must pay international rates, but when it is produced/manufactured in NZ it should be cheaper.

I have family living in Australia that get quite upset when they come home for a vacation and see what EVERYTHING costs here.

There is plenty of competition both at retail level and at wholesale level. The problem is there is absolutely no incentive to change the current strategies that both wholesalers and retailers use as they're delivering results for them.

If customers were smart they'd all go and buy house brand milk and save $1 per bottle. The market share for Anchor or Meadow Fresh should be in decline, but it's not.

When consumers are perfectly happy to pay 25% more for exactly the same product you can't blame manufacturers for not wanting to change anything. This is classic marketing 101 - consumers look at the price and packaging of a house brand product and think it must be cheap for a reason so they opt for a major brand instead that often has better margin.

Considering Fonterra are one of Australia's biggest milk producers you could well just be drinking a Fonterra product still.

Is this our mind playing tricks on us as we (subconsciously) expect the premium brand to be better? I find the really expensive stuff such as Lewis Rd Creamery milk to be better tasting, but never buy it - far too expensive.

No - you're trying to defend the indefensible - using whataboutism - once again.

What freaking "high horse riders"?

If Auckland needs to clean up it's act WRT sewage overflow to stormwater etc - that's something that they need to do - regardless of what's done in the 98% of NZ that isn't Auckland - and vice versa. They are separate issues with separate causes and separate solutions - not bargaining chips for your politically biased disingenuous arguments.
