In-depth review:
It toasts. It toasts evenly. I've had no issues, even with my high expectations I have from my toasts.

Bonus review:
It also does Poptarts quite well.

Can recommend.

My toaster and I are currently trying to work through a few issues. I hate it, and yet I can't bring myself to part with it. Or more likely I can't bring myself to part with the money required for a good one.

It not only toasts unevenly from left to right, but it also toasts unevenly from top to bottom. I've learned that it I have to put it on a lowish setting, allow it to go through one cycle then flip the bread over to complete the cycle for nice even toast. It comes out just right.

Then the fun begins. For the 2nd slice the toaster is now pre-warmed. The first slice takes about 90secs, the 2nd slice turns to carbon dust in 25secs flat.

Alas this model is now discontinued!

I have checked their site for the current equivalent and am immediately suspicious of it based on this utter drivel:

I, too, have a delonghi (it looks like that Icona, but only two slice).

Happy with it - it toasts evenly, and isn't horribly slow. It replaced a Sunbeam (which wasn't cheap) but was an piece of cr*p, slow and uneven.

I always preferred toast that was only toasted on one side using a grill. Too lazy to fire up an oven for two slices nowadays.

I also have a De'Longhi which I bought two years ago. It is great in terms of toasting evenly, but the build quality is quite poor. Part of the plastic housing has cracked from heat stress, and the steel outer trim has corroded a bit.

We have one of the old 4 slice dualit ones that is a good 25 years old. The only thing that can really go wrong with it is the elements burning out,(filament breaking) which are very pricey to replace (cheaper to buy a new toaster). Also the rotary timer, which seems slower now than it once was.. I don't know if it can even be replaced when it dies.

Before that we had a Zip toaster, made in NZ. It was a design classic, and we still have it as a backup toaster. It is so old that I can't see any examples on google, but it has a very square 60's design, and is in one of NZs design books as an iconic kiwi design. It is one of the ones that shoots the toast out onto the bench or floor, but it seems to cook faster than other toasters.

Apparently this model was sold in Oz, but I personally don't think it is the best design. I think the Dualit design is better. The problem with the newer toaster you see in standard retail stores, is that I can't see them lasting much more than 10 years with the tech that goes into them.

Bottom line: This 2-slice toaster is a just OK performer and is OK to use. But it’s poor at producing consistently toasted bread and browning evenly, and just OK at toasting frozen bread.

I read that, and bought a Kitchenaid toaster instead. It's okay / good, seems very well made, and was half the price.

I would take such a review with a grain of salt, and I find it cooks just as well, as other toasters. Also a lot would depend on perosnal preference and the bread you use. Plus it doesn't look at long term durability, or the overall look on the bench. People partly buy this model because it looks goo, as it is a design classic

Consumer tested a lot of toasters side by side, something I can't feasibly do, and I assume nor can most people.

Looks cool but sucks at making toast. who cares if it lasts for ever?
