I don't know Robert Pattinson but after a quick photo search I think he looks a bit too wimpy to make a convincing batman.

Agree!

Personally don't see what the ladies see but what ever. He is going to have to bulk up. At least with Ben Afflecks Batman he had the bulk and the axe-handle shoulders and height.

Im not a fan of this genre, although happy to give it a crack. But he is personality-less. A staunch figure. Whiter skin, I can see it working.

I admit to wretching a little when I heard the news. He doesn't even look strong enough to turn the wheel of the Batmobile, and I think even the bats could beat him up.

There may or may not have been a sustained period of time in my office this PM with everyone listing all the things that Robert Pattinson would be bested by, like... sunlight, a stiff breeze etc.

Ben Affleck is in my mind much better suited to the role. At least Alfred wouldn't have had to help him lift his handkerchief.

Perhaps all the enemies in the next instalment will just be incapacitated by laughing so hard.

It's the worst casting decision since Tom Cruise was Jack Reacher and for similar reasons.

Michael Keaton anyone ? From my limited (2 minutes) research, 50000 letters of complaint when he was chosen, morphing to acclaim from critics and audiences apparently.

This could be interesting. Sensitive millennial skinny suit Batman.

With sharp upper canine teeth

And a man bun - the bat helmet will need a bit of remodelling.

Its all about the "chin".  :-)

As long as he can pull off off a decent voice and demenour of both Wayne and Batman.....whats the problem?

Thanks for those, very interesting.

He may just pull it off yet, we shall see, though I think he will still have to bulk up a bit. I will now reserve further judgement till the film comes out.

It's about how good of an actor he is, or isn't. It's about how credible he is, which in my question is the problem.

It's like the Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher thing. I don't mind TC, but it was more or less ridiculous to cast him in that role. He lacked the physical presence to convey his gravitas.

You might well be right, but I would just point out, as I mentioned Michael Keaton turned out OK, Mr Pattinson can apparently act and he's a bit over 6 foot, taller than Mr Keaton but shorter than Mr Affleck. Actual 'presence' ? who knows...

And as was also mentioned, maybe its just a chin thing...

Complete agree with you and others. I still have no idea how he plans to put on that much muscle - even then as you say, his shoulders are not convincing ... maybe they plan on just using CGI Robert Pattison for the entire movie.

Its officially official.

Robert Pattinson is officially the new Batman.

Warner Bros. has closed a deal for the “Twilight” actor to play the Caped Crusader in “The Batman.”

Matt Reeves’ superhero tentpole hits theaters on June 25, 2021. Variety first reported on May 16 that Pattinson was in negotiations for the part. The studio confirmed on Friday that he had signed a deal.

Pre-production on the Warner Bros.-DC Comics pic is expected to start this summer. No official start date has been set for filming “The Batman.”

Reeves, the filmmaker behind the last two “Planet of the Apes” sequels, assumed “Batman” directing duties from Ben Affleck in January 2017. Reeves will produce “The Batman” with his “Planet of the Apes” collaborator Dylan Clark.

Affleck starred as Batman in two titles directed by Zack Snyder: 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and 2017’s “Justice League.” Both films received mixed reviews and were a disappointment for Warner Bros. in its efforts to compete with Marvel Studios in the superhero realm.

Pattinson became a star following the breakout success of the five-film “Twilight” franchise, in which he portrayed the vampire Edward Cullen opposite Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan.

Pattinson is starring with John David Washington in Christopher Nolan’s latest film, “Tenet,” set to open July 17, 2020. He toplines “The Lighthouse,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and appeared in Claire Denis’ “High Life,” “The King” for Netflix and “Waiting for the Barbarians.”
