From what I have read Apple wont be releasing any 5G appliances this year.

Riots will happen now and then Apple will claim they invented 5G

It does all make sense now, China does need 5G for their Govt social credit system/program.

Whether Huawei's 5G deployment would allow China to have secret global social surveillance system, well there's another forum for that ...

There is advertising here in NZ for future 5G, but it is either Spark brand building or Huawei trying to sway public opinion against the GSCB.

Is the need for 5G as great in NZ as AU? We obviously have so much surplus mobile spectrum/capacity in places that Spark/Skinny are having a bit of capacity fire-sale in the form of fixed wireless.

If 5G will increase fixed wireless then the Govt may find it self in the position where it wants to put the hand-brake on so as to maintain momentum in the UFB space and get some payback on its billion dollar investment.

Presumably, like ADSL to VDSL to Fibre etc web content and so on will just keep expanding, such that 4G is eventually the equivalent of two tin cans and a bit of string.

Once you start the tech race I think you have to stay on, like riding a tiger...!

NZ would be the same, if spectrum was available..

Give aus have totally banned H, it needs even more hype behind it too...

There is plenty of spectrum - Spark will deploy 5G initially in the 2500/2600 band where they already have existing management rights.

The problem right now is their technology provider is banned. 😂

Given b7 is quite heavily used... I'd argue that would be silly.

20mhz isn't enough to go 5g.that's just shooting yourself in the foot pr wise.

I just lol at the Spark TV ad saying they need 5G for the Americas cup to get realtime telemetry off the boat. Did nobody tell them mmWave won't even make it to where the boats are? Maybe they're planning floating mmWave 5G cellsites with satellite backhaul!

Ironically CDCD was groundbreaking technology when deployed here for the Americas cup in the '90s

From what I've read, the reason for hype around 5G telemetry and 5G for autonomous cars is because 5G has lower latency, so in theory autonomous cars etc will be able to communicate better with each other in real time about changing hazards etc. That Spark ad with the single autonomous car doesn't really convey that message. I was assuming such systems would be/should be peer to peer and independent of outside infrastructure in the same way aircraft (ADSB) and ships (AIS) are.

That was why 5G was invented and was the main part of the design for 5G
