I keep boxes, then my wife throws them away.

I've never needed one, but still, I don't like to throw them out.

She, on the other hand, is mercilessly ruthless.

Do you keep the boxes all the purchase's come in or do you biff them. If an item is over a certain price do you stash the box away incase of resale ??.

I keep boxes with poor Engrish on them or for fragile decorative items that may need to be transported in the future. When I relocate, a large chunk of the IT gear will be updated and replaced, so I'm not going to bother keeping packaging. Whatever is left over is either recycled or given to the zoo for behavioural enrichment (according to their needs at the time).

I keep boxes of most of the big ticket items like our home theatre and the smaller boxes for mobile phones in case I need to sell them.

Did keep the box for my old plasma TV but the buyer never wanted as it was too bulky to transport in the box.

So all TV packaging gets biffed.

Have been really handy when we moved house twice and also when I sold my mobiles.

Depends whether it is something I think I will sell for 'serious' money or what amounts to a disposable item in terms of assets.

For example, my Apple computers. Always keep the box. Just sold my previous iMac complete with the box, the material wrap, keyboard box, paperwork etc etc. I am not sure whether it gets you more, per se, but it certainly helps people see that the machine has been cared for and I think it sells quicker. Ditto my mobile phones.

Something like, say, a small external disk drive then no - in the bin.

I read somewhere several years ago that selling a used Apple product with its original packaging adds about 1% to the price. True or not true I do not know. Though when I sold my 2007 iMac it was with the original box which made it easier to package up and the buyer appreciated it.

So yes for all our electronic goods we still have the original boxes. The OP's photo is almost identical to our wardrobe top shelf.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

haha that OP Picture looks like my office cupboard. We recently went through and decided no more unless something is very special or we think it will enhance it's resale value or ease to sell.

No very large boxes.

Usually I keep boxes until warranty has expired. If its a low end item, I put the box into recylcing. I keep high end (ie: Apple Devices) and TV cartons.

I not only keep the original boxes everything came in, but all the shipping boxes Amazon et al send stuff in.

I have piles of them, all nestled inside each other like Russian Dolls in the Attic and Garage.

They're so solid and well made it seems a shame to throw them out, and you never know when you'll need to box something, or a nice piece of thick cardboard*

Also keep those boxes, but when comes to recycle them can be annoying when those boxes that come with polystyrene protecting the tv, whitewares, gadgets... those polystyrene can't put in the council recycle bin.

How do you guys recycle those polystyrene?

I generally keep them, depending on the value of the item, the size of the box, and the probability that I will move house before the item reaches the end of its economic lifespan.
