tripp: I think you have your links mixed up. The one above (first link) is the one you said you ordered and the one that turned up for $48. The other one is 250HD for $68. Can't see anywhere that says it's a slim

The photo is of the slim xbox 360 model i bought and they sent the xbox 360 arcade model to me i just posted that link to show what the model they sent me looks like

So they advertised in the photo the xbox 360 slim model so it was false advertising i know it says

Console colour may vary (
there are other colours of the xbox 360 slim console)

but it does not say console model may very

Playing devils advocate, it also does not specify anywhere which console model it is - just "Xbox 360 console".  Given it is second hand, they probably just give you whatever is returned and available.

Not knowing a whole lot about the different models is there that much difference between the consoles pictured beyond the outside case?

the older xboxs before the slim models are very prone to getting red ring of death from getting to hot which stresses the solder joints on the CPU and GPU and causes the xbox to stop working

Aesthetics aside, yes the hardware was improved to minimize any chance of heat stressing the solder joints on the cpu and gpu which plagued the first gen models. As for not specifying what console is supplied but attaching a photo is misleading, one could argue it doesn't specify that EB will supply any old console lying around either.

The noxious smell notwithstanding, for $48 what’s the point of complaint about the model/version?

Try your local cash converters. Ours has heaps of slims and the newer one from about 50 or so.
