Seems like a bit of an opportunity with all of the planes parked up, you would think. Some airlines are flying things in the passenger area strapped to seats which admittedly takes a bit longer to load and unload but still better than having a plane just sitting there.

Packages strapped to the seats of passenger aircraft? Seems like a recipe for bankruptcy there.
Surely a passenger aircraft configured with bathrooms, carpet, windows, galleys etc. are much less efficient than cargo aircraft.

Air NZ are operating several flights a day to Asia and the US. However their passenger 787/777s are not able to carry a full load like proper freight/cargo aircraft. Luckily prices for cargo have gone through the roof so it must be profitable enough for Air NZ to operate cargo flights to move cargo for those willing to pay the premium. I'm assuming the likes of USPS are choosing to stockpile their parcels until air cargo prices come down.

I have an item coming for a vehicle. It's rather important since I have to buy belts here in New Zealand at $50NZD a piece compared to this US retailer at $12NZD a piece.

They're willing to re-ship via DHL but they are a small business and I bought in bulk. So I'm just waiting to see if my package which has had a tour around the United States makes it to either Australia or New Zealand.

In my experience, if you take that same tracking number and punch it into the receiving carrier's tracking system, the status is very different. Australia Post for example has seen fit to alter their tracking system to expose the pre-clearance scan rather than exposing that as a departure scan - so when USPS says my parcel is "departed a transfer airport", AusPost says the parcel is "cleared and awaiting international departure". As in, there are no lanes to deliver the parcel, so it's sitting at the warehouse. The three places everything is getting stuck are Los Angeles, Chicago, and Miami - they must have gargantuan warehouses.

For what it's worth, they are also air to sea diverting freight to some areas where they cannot get air transport.

There was some issues with over-keens swamping IATA rating/approval for seat use. Some overseas are doing it when they have smaller aircraft in fleet. https://www.iata.org/contentassets/094560b4bd9844fda520e9058a0fbe2e/guidance-safe-transportation-cargo-passenger-cabin.pdf

Here, many of the post companies use Airpak/Parcelair Dedicated 737Fs nationally and for Toll in australia. You hear them making noise each night rather packed from about 6. By day at present there is a freight focused Dreamliner doing CHC-AKL, (with seats available). To meet the international export flights in the evening out of Auckland

And we get an emirates 777-3 passenger on higher focused freight weight doing AKL 3x and CHC 1x for crays and meat. 50T last thursday out of here

Our 777-2s being leased don't seem to be being used for that. Parked up across the country (and seem to be being robbed for parts it seems) I think a couple of -300s were used for direct Australia/asia runs in April however

"Some overseas are doing it"

A330s, they've since stripped 3 of them of seats totally. It seems airbus have been faster for approval. But it's also up to the local Authority and would need to warrant it. We're not there yet with a dedicated airfreight service

My parcel from 9th March has just arrived today from Chicago after 72 days in transit. Looked at tracking history and it seems it arrived in NZ on the 19th, sorting yesterday (20th) and arrived today (21st). All tracked on the original USPS tracking code. Strangely NZ Post added their own COxxxxxxxxxxNZ label to the parcel which only has one tracking event--"Your item has been delivered (Location Not Available)" with delivery time exactly the same as on the CJxxxxxxxxxxUS code. So the xxxUS tracking code seems to be the one to track.

Hope this is helpful for others. Hope this is the start of a steady stream of packages from the US making its way to you all!

One of my USPS parcels just got updated for the first time since April 3rd – with another "International departure" status (at JFK). Let's hope this time it's actually getting on a plane!

Last time I had that happen, three weeks later the receiving carrier unmanifested the parcel and tracking declared it nonexistent.

My item from the US ordered 29th April arrived 10 minutes ago. Not bad for 5 bucks postage I reckon.

Ordered 3 cases for my S20U, two were ordered on 22 May, which are still in transit, apparently both have departed US on its way to NZ.

Third case was ordered from eBay on 25 May and arrived on 8 June.

Maybe one day it'll arrive, looks like it got stuck in NY for a month.

I have a package that was meant to arrive on the 2nd of July but hasn't updated since the 28th of June...

It's a USPS Express parcel coming to Auckland. Does anyone have any experience dealing with Express recently? Seems odd that it hasn't updated since departing Chicago?
