Lastman: Secondly, where was the maintenance? It’s a tin roof, they surely should have been able to maintain it on a low decile budget. Having got into this situation, something does need to be done urgently.

Sounds bad:

Article. Aims has been documenting the school’s condition for the past year in videos showing children performing kapa haka around plastic buckets and staff emptying water from light casings.

“I’m used to decile 1 schools, I’m battle-hardened, but I was shocked when I came here, I still am. When I watch those happy children walk through the school gates to this, I feel so ashamed.”

Does not really matter how it got that way this needs to be fixed. Minimal patch repairs can be a waste of money. More skill and experience is needed for patch repairs than new construction sometimes. This looks ancient.

All schools have a Board of Trustees and one of the responsibilities of the Board is maintenance of the school property. OK, maybe there wasn’t a lot of funding available but can’t help thinking that if the school has got into that state, the Trustees, who are predominantly the kids’ parents, weren’t taking their fiduciary duty very seriously. There’s more than one finger that could be pointed here.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Fred99:

sorry not sure where to put this

It should have been obvious to the OP that this was posted in the wrong forum.

Even the first reply is politically charged - what else did you expect?

Capital letters in the thread title?
