One set is a retired couple, American guy from NM with Kiwi accent on some words, his wife is English. Lovely couple. The other side is a Chinese couple with a son who likes to throw his two basketballs over the fence.... he should aim at his net...

No it was them having a party and doing burnouts in the street. I walked across and said "how bout you take that s__t somewhere else, it's not OK around here!".
Fixed :-)

I had to move out of my previous place when nuisance tenants moved in upstairs. At times the noise was so loud it was like having a chainsaw in the room with me, and then there was all the junk on the property and beat up old cars everywhere. They were so dumb that they couldn't even put their rubbish out correctly - they would put it out after the truck had been through, and then leave it there all week for the next collection.

I called the property manager who managed to get them under control for a couple of weeks but it was clear that the only long term solution was to get rid of them. I think they were reluctant to do that because then they would have to admit to their client that they messed up with tenant selection.

Funny thread! Neighbours are like a box if chocolates, haha.

We have 5 direct neighbours but they are all fairly well hidden by trees. Two have kids at the same daycare and school as ours, so our kids play together occasionally. Another two house are military families but we never see one of them, and the other family is nice enough. The last one is an empty property, the old fella passed away 3 years ago and his 80 year old son and a slew of nephews maintain the property, there's someone there once a week doing lawns etc.

We also back on to a private lane and it has a church minister and her family, another military family and a large South African family who during lockdown played music every night at 7pm, usually something like Celine Dion, REALLY LOUD.

We arent close with any of them but are grateful to be surrounded by decent people.

Our old place was slightly more interesting, with neighbours close by. A solo mum would scream at her kids constantly and on the other side was a Maori family who were good as gold until their adult sons turned up now and then and did burnouts followed by shouting matches with the father, and they would have the occasional party where they would still be up playing the guitar at 7am.

I have good neighbours and I hope they think so too.

There is just the one neighbour that goes out of their way to avoid everybody and that's the religious household.

My bigger problem is the people in the neighbourhood who go walking along our road and think our garden is a good spot for a pee or a poo.

Far away, although not as far away as I would prefer!

I detest neighbours as a concept. I do not wish to see or hear anyone else's life when I am at home. The very idea horrifies me. The nearest house to us at the moment is probably about 300m away. I would prefer that ran to kilometers but my wife and I have to compromise a bit here..!

Even as a teen, I always said my best neighbours would be ones it took me 30 minutes to reach in a 4x4.

Man, that sounds like a pretty rough neigbourhood where people use your garden as a public lavatory. What do they do for toilet paper? Bring it?

In our block of 6 townhouses we've got Indians, English, Lebanese and Americans. It's a fairly typical mix in Dubai and one of the things we like about the place. The Indian family are very quiet, the rest are friendly without being annoying.

I don't understand how people tick.  When I moved overseas and rented out my house, my neighbor decided that trees on my property were blocking their view.  Instead of contacting me, or my tenant, my neighbor simply decided to cut down the tree blocking their view.  Instead of chopping the tree into manageable pieces and removing them from my property, my neighbor decided to just leave it all there.

My neighbor is a privileged a-hole who thinks rules don't apply to them, and they're right.

Presumably the tenancy agreement states whether they can do this or not?

Tenant liked the trees.  My neighbor chopped down the trees, not my tenant.

edit: the relevance of the tenants, is the neighbor knew I'd left the country and rented my house out, which makes it even worse IMHO.

Whilst the neighbour may have a right to trim trees you own because they  are overhanging the property line, AFAIK they have no legal right to just cut down your property.

Send him a bill for the tree's amenity value plus the cost of having a landscaper plant the largest standard they can get to replace it.

On one side we've got the original builders of our house - awesome neighbours.

On the other side there are literally hundreds of people living there - they're just dying to move in! Very quiet neighbours though.

Apart from all the crying at the house-warming parties I imagine.
