Oblivian:

I've seen ginger beer stash flood a laundry it was stewing away in..

Yup, one bottle going off will invariably trigger a domino-effect of more and more loud bags. Usually at 3 in the morning.

Thnks for the better explanation of how it happened. I should have known it wouldn't ferment at that temp, being an ethanol distiller!

The bottles were at the back of the fridge so looks like that one dropped too low.

Great fun stories!!

Also, more fun with things that explode in bottles. Take one 500ml Coke bottle, add 200ml of mineral brake fluid. Gently but rapidly pour 1 dessertspoon of shock pool chlorine on top. Seal it up tight & GTFO (you don't have long so do this bit quickly.).

If you want a little more getaway time before the explosion, freeze the brake fluid. In this instance, scurrying
as opposed to running will get you a safe distance away,

The advantage of this vs ginger beer is you're never too sure exactly when the ginger beer will explode.

A long time ago, in a city far far away, I got some dry ice and 2l pet bottles...

You put some water in the bottle, then drop in some dry ice, screw on the top and throw it far away.
The first one I panicked and threw the bottle before the top was on tight. It didn't hold pressure.
The second one, I folded the bottle in half after I put in the water. This works perfectly to separate the two things until you throw it.

I threw the second one and after a short wait, it went off with a considerable boom. It was like a shotgun. The bang was a lot bigger than I expected, and I realised it was a terrible idea in a built up area... Then the lid on the first one froze up and it went off too.

I went inside and sat in the hallway thinking about how stupid I'd been.
Then I heard sirens.

They never came to my house, but they did storm the house of a guy who's been walking a few streets away holding a guitar.
I had the news paper clipping for a long time to remind me to think harder before trying silly things.

Yes I too have memories of a large chilli bin of dry ice we acquired as teens. Days of irresponsible fun. It was a simpler time back then! A dry ice/coke bottle in a underground car park at night makes an incredibly loud boom.

Icy mess ... bottle at the back of the fridge ... the bottle wasn’t touching the back of the fridge was it and had become frozen?

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.
