I'm stuck on this one.

..

Can anyone help get me going again?

I haven't finished it yet, but to get the next digit

there's a hidden triple in box 8

that forces a pair in R1C5, R3C5

that in turn forces a digit into R2C5, R2C6, which forces it into R1C2 and that frees things up somewhat.

Not sure if there is standard naming for the boxes in Sudoku, but which is box 8?  And which is box 1?

Is the hidden triple the bottom row center box, and its 5-3-6?   The R9C6 cannot contain 3, but that still counts as part of a hidden triple?  I.e. if we have 3 and only 3 squares in a box where the numbers from the triple appear in, its a triple.    If that's the case then this is a new technique I didn't know about, so thanks!    I have only ever looked for where all of the 3 squares contained ALL of the three numbers.

Spot on.  that 'hidden triple', the 5-3-6 must occupy those 3 cells so it's blocked for any other numbers.  So then think where the 1 needs to go in box 8, and the effect that has on box 2.

Re numbering, not sure if there is an official format but this is starting top-left then left to right working your way down is how CrackingThe Cryptic refer to them so I have adopted that.

Top row after the 9 is a 7( courtesy of the hidden triple.
That solves the next top box ( 1/7)

I always try to do it without writing the possible combinations in. I did that when I started but it seems a bit like it's against the spirit of the game. Same as writing out letter combinations for cryptic crosswords.

That's a tough one alright, look for a hidden triple in column 6

Row 1: (1 or 6) in col 1,

Row 2: col 1 & 3 are (2 or 4) and col 8 & 9 are (1 or 7)

Row 3: (1 or 7) in col 2, (6 or 7 in col 3), (1 or 6) in col 6

I still haven't made any progress on this despite the replies I got.   I've added my tick marks in now (not sure if that helps anyone, but i didnt want to have to do them again)     Anyone able to give me some ideas on how to find the next number?

Col 5, one of row 6,7,8 must be a 1 (because there's no 1s possible in the other cells).

So no other 1s in the bottom centre box.

So row 8, col 4 must be a 4.

And think about where the 6 now needs to go in box 5, and then box 4, and box 6
