I'd wonder whether the value of the little fan was cancelled out by the jacket covering the rest of the body.

If the neighbour's dog isn't actually on the beach it uses one of the cheap blue shell shaped pools (that seem to be sold as sandpits to avoid fencing issues). Labs like some other breeds have a dense layer of fur close to the skin that can act like a wet suit. That would probably make a fan on chest or shoulder much less effective.

Thanks for a real reply. If you look at the article I quoted, the fans appear to be mounted on the backs of the dogs. This doesn't seem to make any sense to me, unless it is just a scam.

If the fan pushed air past the dogs head it might help, but that setup doesn't.

I'm currently dog less, but if my dogs got hot, I'd take them for a swim or hose them down.

It absolutely makes sense from a physics point of view.  It is convection, and while you point out humans sweat, this just makes the convection more efficient.  Equally you will have a degree of air layer insulation having that disturbed will cool also.  If the air is cooler than body temp it will cool, but the opposite occurs when the air is warmer than body temp.

Dogs don't sweat or cool themselves through their skin and fur.

Dogs (and all animals) do lose heat through their skin.  Sweat would just make it more efficient.  Spraying a dog with water would mimic sweat.

Moving air would help remove heat faster from the dog.  Giving a dog a hair cut would also help in heat.

Looks like junk to me. Surely the added weight of it would add to their discomfort

Normally hotdogs come frozen/cold then you heat them up. I don’t understand why you would want to cool them off again?

I just had to share this picture from many years ago of my Samoyed at work who had his very own AC in the form of a fan that pointed at his crate. If the day was hot this was him :)
