Good for gadgets you didn’t know you needed and will go into the junk drawer after one use. There’s a very occasional gem though.

Sealing around doors and windows, similar to what you buy here for triple the price.

Worth it for arch supports, shoe inners, silicone blister plasters for when you travel, silicone heels grips for new shoes that rub, most silicone products are ok and miles cheaper than the same thing imported here from China and can often be bought on TM. Was happy with some orthotic type inners for sports shoes. Almost identical to the $50 ones that are also made in China. I took the original out of the sneaker and compared it.

Anything for a Great Gatsby party…I looked rather fetching in dim light wearing their sequinned outfit. However if the picture shows sparkle, it’s often just printed on the material in fluoro colours.

Million dollar diamond and precious jewels and rings to impress for under $10 and perfect for the far sighted, plus some flash reading glasses for a closer look.

Phone accessories are mostly OK, as are lanyards.

Don’t believe the made from cotton, linen, wool. Mostly all polyester that might have been in the same room as a rare cotton handkerchief.
Most descriptions bear no resemblance to the product and are copy paste from some other obscure product, good for a smile.

Christmas table cloths, decorations. Not bad.

All product photos are ENHANCED. Never forget this.

And…they use Aramex mostly. This means your parcel will be thrown in the yard with the gate left wide open to enable easy pickings for thieves.

I also don't need more junk of questionable quality or safety. I can get enough asbestos sand at local stores.

\> children’s raincoats with toxic chemicals, sunglasses with no UV filter

\> baby soothers with beads that fall off easily, which pose a choking hazard because they did not have the regulation-size hole to enable a baby who did swallow one accidentally to continue to get air

\> cosmetics containing butylphenyl methylpropional, also known as Lilial, which is listed as a chemical of “very high concern” by the EU and has been banned since 2022 over concerns that it affects fertility and foetal development

As you alluded to, local goods are in the spotlight this week as well, Kmart poisoning kids with as estkd and recalling a baby toy because the screws are falling out isn't a glowing endorsement either.

We choose very carefully what is acceptable from AliExpress and temu and don't take risks on things that kids might put in their mouth or cause risks. Also don't go for the cheapest option on a lot of the stuff as it's rubbish, if you do slightly more expensive it's generally similar quality to what you'd buy here at a fraction of the price.

The main reason we started buying bits off there is the local quality has just tanked on so many things. You buy nice things and they break after 5 minutes. The buy once cry once thing just doesn't apply to a lot of stuff anymore now the high end isn't built better than the cheap end.

Yeah, Kmart et al. are only one small step above Temu in my estimation. Yes they bulk import junk from China, but they also do recalls, and there's some level of accountability for what they stock on their shelves.

I agree.

I haven't really looked at Temu before so had a quick look this morning at woodworking tools.

I see that they offer free shipping on things that are only $2 or even less. How does this work?

Even if the stuff is totally c*** the freight would surely swallow most of the sell price.

Another cashback on shopback is upcoming for 70% up to $30 back to you, and when you go in with a link from them, all the spinning wheel pick 3 things and then now you have to pick 4 more to get those 3 free stuff doesn't come up. Multiple orders work fine to claim it on multiple orders too.

Seriously, some people need to use a bit of their brain sometimes when it comes to Temu, and life in general.

You wouldn't buy a dummy / pacifier for your baby from a $2 shop, so why would you buy something like that on Temu? You need to keep your wits about you when buying things from anywhere.

Temu's been great for me personally. They often sell stuff that you just can't find in NZ for love or money.

Happy with my…

$2 hook over the ears holders for AirPod pros which I kept dropping in the sink or anywhere with liquid. Why did I choose blue and not transparent. Will be handy on a plane so they don’t drop to the floor when eating and you disrupt everyone trying to search under the seat.

A flat plastic, very shrill emergency whistle for when am buried under rubble in an earthquake. It’s waiting in a drawer for now.

10pack RfId card covers for travel when I only need 2.

Dazzling Crown Jewels necklace looks like what the Aga Khans wife would wear. $8.99. Why did they send two and where on Earth can I wear it.

Although people also need to realize that buying something that is expensive could also be the identical product to a cheap  $2 item , and it is has just been repackaged. So people should always do their research and find out where things are being made/produced and whether it is safe and tested etc.

Hence my previous point, people need to engage with their brains.

Picture request of the jewellery!

You should wear the whistle 24/7 just in case. ;)

I haven't read the thread but here's my view of this app: wife's new phone had it pre-installed. I missed it and didn't uninstall. It started showing notifications - many times a day. I asked the wife if she had an account or used the app. As she said no, I uninstalled it.

What a load of crap.

As requested, except they only sent one earring. Already can’t find the whistle.
