And, a tangent slightly, but also recently read about young people wanting to get non-smartphones.

I have some friends whose teen kids did that to be retro and got a rude wake up call about the ripoff that is legacy telco providers when calling other countries. They had no idea that calling their friends overseas would be any different to calling their ones down the road, and really that is a reasonable expectation these days only let down by phone companies that are still clipping the ticket with elders who refuse to move off their oldschool calling services.

I still use my box brownie - although it is harder to get film now.

i’m not a fan of digital film cameras, preferring manual focus and setup.  Also, prefer black and white as well.

I believe you're still getting better resolution than the average phone camera at this point. A couple more years..

I have no desire to go back to film cameras, or vinyl or even books 😂

I stood outside before trying to capture a Tui in flight. I stand behind the feeder and they swoop in from 50m away. Would be almost impossible with film.. Whereas I can sit there with my finger on the shutter and hold it and take 50 images in almost no time. Then select all and delete. Wait for the next one.

In an old car of mine until recently it only had a CD player. My partner gleefully dug out a full CD wallet. Shows how far we've come, I have to actually pull over and stop to change an album (the car is manual).

Thankfully now replaced by a single DIN AA/Carplay unit.

My youngest friend, who is 30, has a Polaroid camera.  Not a vintage one, it's new and takes smaller pictures than an original Polaroid.

Weird eh? My son has been using my old SLR for the last couple of years despite also having access to a DSLR that won't cost $1.50 everytime he presses the button.

He's also using the last cassette player in the house because his muso pal gave him a cassette of original music.

What next ? Will he come home with a horse?

My grandmother (b. 1928) once swapped her bike for a horse at school and rode it home (some kids rode in from outlying farms). Her parents were furious and returned it that evening. Auckland was a different place back then!

My daughter (6) has one of these. She is very careful with the use of the film. The fact that it makes something physical immediately is what the kids consider magic about this.

Just saw a story on today's Engadget and followed it to Fuji, here. It's retro-themed video and instant shot print camera that looks like it could fill @xpd's daughter's requirement. However it won't be released until 30 Jan and initially only in Japan.
