By definition instant coffee can never be good. It is instant coffee, after all!

Yeah this really bummed me out. I had just found Special Blend and then they announce they're closing down the factory. I've tried Greggs and other branded powdered coffees in the past and never liked them, but Special Blend is granulated and much better and very cheap.

Tea is not great, its like swamp water. Also its not instant you have to leave it to sit and not forget that its sitting. Work has proven that many people will forget and then have extra gross swamp water that they have to throw out and start the process again.

allan: Moccona coffee has a very distinctive taste which I don't particularly like. When we are not Aeropressing the real stuff, Nescafe Expresso is our preferred goto.

Excuse my Japanese genmaicha, sencha, hojicha, matcha please. Very distinct flavours with the nice stuff.

For coffee a lot of the instant stuff is either burnt or rancid tasting and can vary by batch.

I’ve forgone it all and just dump Avalanche sachets into my mug if I want something quick.

Edit: I take it Jeds didn’t make the list because it’s packed in the UK?

Oh thats sad.

Coffee is all grown overseas (except for a couple of small scale pilot plantations up north) so for instant I guess it makes sense to make it closer to production.

Does my head in shipping glass jars around the world though. what a waste.

Wonder if it's like many of these nz manufacturing business where the machinery was starting to age out, and it's too much to replace it.

It would be sensible to ship in bulk and pack into retail jars locally.  That's a highly automatable process.

Food processing in NZ is hard.  It's expensive and difficult on many fronts. That's why apart from fresh food processing, it's dissappearing.

When I drink tea I do not add milk sugar or salt. I only steep the tea for two minutes. We have instant hot water at 100c there the process to mace a cup of tea takes around two and a half minutes. Now to make a cup of coffee I use a Breville machine. I have to make sure the water tank is full with fresh filtered water. Prime the machine, grind the beans, tamp the beans, place the group head and then run the machine. A cup of coffee takes a lot longer to make. 

I like both coffee and tea but making coffee takes a lot longer and for me even longer as the operation is done one handed. I will drink instant coffee especially travelling but prefer the former. I drink tea when at a cafe or restaurant as I have experienced some terrible brews so to avoid disappointment its English Breakfast Tea

work i s starting to get into food packing at the moment. its not easy. lots of tech and you have to get it right. failure is very costly. 

there was a beer company which had a canning problem on one of their batchs. the recall sunk the company.

It's hard to see what the advantage would be in doing that. It's double packing rather than just packing at source and then distributing on the ground.
