Sky City (queensgate) use the expensive, hand back glasses too.

Booked the seats for Reading not realising SkyCity had Dolby 3D as well. However, I looked at the online booking system for SkyCity and the Avatar 3D theatre looks at least half the size of the Reading one - seating-wise anyway.

Also, only two seats for SkyCity had been booked (at the very back), as where Reading had several seats already booked - mainly in the back-half in the middle.

So in Auckland SkyCity Cinemas uses Dolby Digital 3D that uses coloured filter glasses that you need to give back. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_3D

Hoyts in Silvia Park used RealD with circular polarised lenses that you get to keep ($1). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RealD_Cinema

Has anyone been to both? Which is better?

i'm guessing, i reckon dolby 3d would be better.

after all, how good could $1 glasses be?
