Radio New Zealand.

No ads.
Current affairs / news
Kiwi culture, including music (all kinds) and the arts.

The commercial stations generally are all ads, peurile "morning crews" and the same music you hear everywhere.....or they are "alternative" - which can be good, if unpredictable - or Talkback (Radio Live and ZB) where people who clearly know close to nothing about almost everything voice their strong opinions.

If you want a high signal and low noise ration, you can stream Radio New Zealand from www.radionz.co.nz though they may block access from overseas IP addresses due to content licensing concerns.

Alternatively, RNZ is also accessed via the "Wunder Radio" app on iPhone and Android.

Well being in the Coromandel i like listening to this christian station, LifeFM. They dont preach down your throat just play music and have some good hardcase debates. The DJ's are cool guys. If im not listening to that i find myself listening to (forgive me!) News talkZB. lol, Good ole Danny Watson ranting on the radio.

Another vote for 95bfm

Awesome radio station.  Heaps of musical variety, intelligent news, analysis and interviews and loads of irreverent humour.

Plus, over the years it's been a breeding ground for young talent, many who have gone on to bigger and brighter things.

Thanks for the replies so far. For anyone interested, I've found a website that streams all the radio stations online. It might be handy : http://www.kiwiradio.fm

Mode96.1 is pretty good right now - it won't be around forever because it's from NZ Broadcasting School (ChCh).  Really good variety so you're not getting the same old dreck every day.

I've had to sit through The Edge at work lately and it's doing my head in. They're diabolical with repeats and they seem to only repeat the same popular auto-tuned fluff that the kiddies are gobbling up.

Ugh, "Morning crews"...

Here in the UK I listen to Jack FM 'Playing what we want'

They have a breakfast show, but after that it is DJ free

Play a wide variety of album led music.

And for all you Blake's 7 fans Paul Darrow is the Voice over guy for the radio station.

I seldom do. Fail to see a purpose other than when in the car and wanting traffic updates because I am too cheap to buy a GPS of any sort so no live traffic is available.

Otherwise I just hit seek till I get something non annoying. Really gets me that there is something on 98.0 and 98.4 that make loud static that it seems to stop at, otherwise the seek in the car replaces needing presets since to me they are all just equally bad and equally good.

Kiwi FM :)

...I was listening to the "Edge" and "More" for a while (3 whole days) before I discovered Kiwi... I like you're home grown music ...it resembles indie alternative British music: not so hard on the ears but not too soft on the brain either... just the right kind :)

...sometimes "Radio Live" if I can't buffer the 3news channel's late evening news :)

...all live online streaming, of course...
