wonderstuff: So far I think I am leaning towards a special dinner. Is there any new flash, special, or unusual and memorable venues anyone can suggest?

Restaurants that spring to mind are Antoine's in Parnell, or the French Café on Symonds Street.  Also, I haven't been there but The Grove (in the city) won this year's Metro Restaurant of the Year.

A bunch of roses never fails even if it is considered old school. They still melt at the knees.

The new Kindle looks magnificent. From what I have seen there are mixed reviews on the Kobo.If she is into books the Kindle looks like the ducks nuts!

Hi,

thanks for all the great suggestions.   Her birthday is next weekend and I think I will do TriBeCa for dinner, but have not settled on a present just yet.

Thanks!

tribeca is OK, but if you're looking for something "new flash, special, or unusual and memorable" then I would seriously consider one of the other restaurants mentioned in this thread.

Just been through the same dilemma for the GF’s birthday.

Ended up doing a meal at Davincis in the evening, midday went to Tamara Spa in Ponsonby, in the morning went... ice skating! First time in 15 years and went down really well.
