nigelj:also like the fact that they offer to exchange your cashback for Extended Warranty which is a nice touch (i.e. if you don't care about that $X cashback, but did want an extended warranty).?

extended warranty these are pointless you are covered by the CGA

I've always found it far simpler to claim under an extended warranty vs. the CGA, simply because the extended warranty is more specific on the lifetime of the warranty etc, while stores take often ignorance to the CGA which often means ending up at the disputes tribunel. For the sake of $39, I think you are getting a pretty good deal incase something goes belly-up, the process is far smoother.

sbiddle: I've sent numerous cashbacks to Acer in Aussie and have had an issue.

Hi Steve, did you just airmail the return? And how long did it take?

Normal mail is fine. I believe you need to post it within 14 days of purchase.

No idea how long they took but I know Acer are the biggest user of cashbacks doing 1000's per year. People seem to dislike the process but there seems to be very few people ever publically complaining that they don't get their money.

I submitted an Asus cashback about a year ago.

Mailed everything to Aussie, the process took about 3 months to get the refund.

All-in-all, I'd say, not worth doing. You post it off and the process is so slow I thought my claim was lost or denied.

The government should clamp down on this shady practice. There is no reason for the process to take so long.

Yes, agree with sbiddle above. if you e-mail Acer they will also get back to you with an update. That was my experience anyway:)

The cashback offer is very viable marketing promotion. The manufacturer usually accounts for a certain percentage not redeemed and calculate this percentage loss into their budget.

They'll still try and work it so they will make a profit even if every single cashback offer was redeemed, and since that will never ever happen, its still a win for the manufacturer and most of the customers..

Steve (or anyone), have you ever sent back 2 cashback redemption forms in the same envelope and is that ok? Nothing in the T&Cs seems to preclude it, nor is there anything saying they must be returned individually.

And yes you can claim more than once (this particular offer says up to 5 of this particular item per person).

I can't stand people who complain about cash back deals being a pain in the butt. Perhaps before leaving the store take a look at the carton to make sure the SNID is visible, $1.50 at the post office to receive a $39.00 cheque in a few weeks seems like an acceptable deal to me.

Just suck it up and stop complaining that Acer hasn't wiped your chin too!

Excuse me but IMHO the completely shambolic procedure in this case is not fairly reflected in the advertising.

"With $39 cashback"

Pretty misleading if the process is jumping through hoops like this. Did the store person say I needed the SNID that was under a stupid label? Nope, he just directed me to a website (that wouldn't load).

I've done cashbacks before and they are not as convoluted as this.

In fact the last 2 cashbacks I did were with Brother, who have a promise of sorting it out in x days (something reasonable like 7 or 14) or else they will refund you the price of the purchase.

Agreed.
There's nothing dodgy / shady happening here - carry on folks, nothing to see.
People will simply complain about anything... which is ironic... as I'm not complaining about someone complaining. Wink

Already answered but it's the process.

I complained about the redemption process for getting a "Night's free accommodation on Suzuki" which they hired a 3rd party promoter to handle (which is the norm for this kind of thing).

It was so convoluted, I argued, that it damaged the Suzuki brand.

Got a personal reply apologising and admitting what I said carried weight - compensation of $100 travel voucher attached.

This is the first "cashback" I've ever complained about. It was a piece of piss getting $10 out of Brother - send a filled in form back and sorted. Other cashbacks have been similarly straight-forward and without hooks.

Um... it's not convoluted is it?
You cut off the label, put it in an envelope and put $1.50 worth of stamps on it right?
The only true complication seems to sit with a courier company placing a sticker on the box? Then having to pay $1.00 more to send it to Aussie...

As my grandad used to say, 'I've seen people die and make less fuss'.

So I too picked up one of these emachines on boxing day.
But I forgot to ask for the instructions on the cashback.

Can anyone kindly give me the details?
Cheer.

I couldn't get the cashback to work on the acer site, so I rang and they said eMachines have a seperate site. If you can't get it to work in the acer site try nz.emachines.com
