I'm an idiot. I've lived at many addresses, and had many courier companies deliver me parcels.

I have often paid for Saturday delivery. The ONLY time I've ever received a parcel on a Saturday is by going to the depot and picking it up.

In my experience "Saturday Delivery" just means "Pay us extra to get your hopes up".

off topic but oh well im in a ranting mood.

about 15 years ago my address was considered rural but it no longer is and according to nz post it hasn't been rural for around 15 years, but the couriers don't seem to have got this info and every single time i get a parcel they call me up and say - sorry you didn't pay for rural post and your at a rural address. Then i explain i actually live 200m fromo a post office - a post office they come and collect mail from twice a day but their is no budging them. so usually i have to head into town and pick up the parcel myself :(

Each courier has their own definitions of what is rural and what isnt.

Business partner has had some customers way in the middle of nowhere who assured us that they didnt need a rural ticket so we sent without, and sure enough, they got the goods from an actual fastway guy.

You need to call the courier that is delivering and enquire about your address. If you or people near you get enough they will often extend their coverage when needed. Thats the wonderful thing about them having a choice where to serve, and leave the unprofitable places to NZ post to deal with so that they can provide a decently priced service.

hmmmmm . . . couple of weeks ago I got a card left from Courierpost saying they came to deliver a parcel and I wasn't there.

The options available were I could go to their Wairaki Rd depot (CHCH airport) to pick up or they would try delivering it again on Saturday.

I waited, they came Sat morning and gave me my parcel. Didn't cost me a thing.
This was a pre-printed card so looks like all re-deliveries are on Sat - at least in CHCH

from courierpost website

Arrange re-delivery of the item online now. If we haven’t heard from you we will automatically attempt to redeliver your item to the original delivery address on the next Saturday.

Just remember, that there is no Saturday CourierPost to Rural areas (which is a little bit silly as there is Saturday Mail in my RD area).

My understanding is that even if you pay for Saturday delivery, it's only a 'target' delivery, and they don't guarantee it will be delivered Saturday. In fact had a few things sent Saturday Delivery in the past year or so and only about 50-60% have actually arrived Saturday.

Also, if one thing to you has Saturday delivery, you will often get everything on a Saturday instead of it being held over till Monday morning.
