true. how frequent do you get your watch serviced?

i have seiko premier kinetic direct drive (~3 years old) and still keep excellent time. never bother to send it for service. last year i bought seiko ananta double retrograde (automatic) and was told that i should send it for maintenance service every 3-5 years.

how old is your watch now? have a look at seiko spring drive collection (spring drive perform as good as quartz movement). time to sell your omega

I have a Lorus (cheap brand of Seiko) Kinetic. Its 9 1/2 years old, and keeps perfect time.
Has see through back to see the internals.

I'd like to buy a watch with H3 Tritium, but I guess like all things, it will be another 5 or 10 years until NZ stores start selling them. I suppose I'll just get one from Ebay when I get around to it.

freitasm: Never had a problem with my Omega Seamaster. Only had battery changed three times in 14 years, and no services needed. Great timepiece, keeps very accurate time - I only really adjust time on DST changes and minutes only once every year or so.

Did you buy an original one?

The watch you linked to isn't your watch then, as the one you linked to is a chronometer. You must have a quartz variant. Quartz watches keep much better time.

Possibly. Still two or three similar Omega Seamaster listed there, I didn't check the sub-versions.

I have used www.startoftime.com in the past and they were pretty fast in sending me.

They have a Amazon store, and I have ordered it through their Amazon store, hoping it was secure enough.

Eventually bought a Seiko from creationwatches.com.

They are based in Singapore, delivery included in price.

Price at the local jewellery store, $1200.

Total landed cost from creationwatches.com was $630.

I don't get how they can sell so cheaply - it 'almost' sounds like a scam due to the massive discounting.

Watch is great.

Found a good website for checking online retailers too, resellerratings.com.

Its definitely not fake :) Seiko naturally trying to scare people from parallel importing.

if you read the terms and conditions from creationwatches.com, they stated that your watch are not guaranteed by Seiko. any problem, you have to send back to them. asean countries produce extremely good counterfeit products. you will not realize it until you turn your watch for repair at the watchmaker. Seiko watches are hard to get and they will not sell it to their non-authorized dealers.

which model is it?

It is genuine 'as far as I can tell'- quality is superb and packaging was meticulous too - eg, every external surface was covered with protective seals, including the strap links.

Model is spc051.

I examined one here in NZ before I bought, and it seems the same. The watch operation is definitely exactly as per the official seiko user guide.

I can only say that if it is fake, then it is the best fake i've seen and indistinguishable from the real item (by me).

But you're right, there is always a chance:) But, i'm satisfied it is genuine.

I don't think you want to be caught selling counterfeit products in singapore either, their punishments are pretty severe.

I bought mine from an Omega store, about 14 years ago. Great piece of work, never had a problem. I wouldn't ever give that much money to an online merchant, just like that...

Bought brand new in Melbourne about 4 years ago. It's my every day watch and still looks brand new...

It's had it's first service (a strip down / clean / lube / seals) which cost $595 at Nairns in Christchurch.

Expensive service costs are to be expected with a high-end watch. Lack of lubrication will be the primary reason a high-end watch doesn't last many many years and hopefully more than one persons lifetime!

This sort of cost can be expected approx every 5 to 7 years...

I personally however, would not purchase an Omega from a website. Would have to be authorized dealer or nothing.

I ended up selling my Omega as I just couldn't justify paying 300-500 bucks every 4 or 5 years to service it.

The whole reason I bought mine in the first place was because I was sick of sending my Tag away every time I needed a new battery but now that $50 every 5 years seems a bargain compared to $500 AND it keeps better time than the Seamaster chrono
