And thats the problem, there should be no way that the body corp can prevent you from taking any data services you choose into your building.

My website that I mentioned earlier in this post is nearly ready. I got bored with coding it and just installed Joomla. Just adding the content in at the moment, should be ready in the next few days

Interesting reading. I'd still be a touch careful with the wording tho.

I think on the creditcard side of things they can't charge a fee, but they can still provide a 'cash discount'. Which is how most computer retailers phrase it. There's the price, and then the cash discounted price.  The fine print may even say 'price includes cash discount of 1.5%'.

I'd also be careful about naming names as anything that's too over the top might be classed as defamation.

As I said interesting reading, but I'd still tread the line carefully.

They are currently under investigation by ComCom at the moment for the credit card thing, as they don't mention cash discounts anywhere, and actually state, in writing, that is an additional fee

K. Just something I'd noted. But yeah, if they don't list it as a discount or anything then yeah.

I used to live in the CIT (when it was CIT in Upper Hutt) Halls of Residence for about half a year many years ago. It wasn't exactly the best managed situation either.  ie: only 3 of the ?6? buildings actually had people in. The others were empty.  Of course the fact they charged more than you could get on student allowance or the student loan allowance didn't exactly help their cause. On top of that only supplying breakfast & dinner. You had to buy your own lunch.     Don't know what the halls/hostels are like otherwise these days.  Will keep tabs on your site out of interest however. ;p

for your info, basically all the halls charge more than the student allowance now.

student allowance is still $150/week but some halls charge more than $230.
i think the cheapest is ~$170

They are the only non-edpac hostel that has to pay for power tho and arent catered. But they have free heating.

In comparison, I pay $195 a week. no food, pay for power and pay for heating.

Stafford also have a phone with DDI and free local calls included in their price.

I would have to pay $30 a month for this, less the DDI (shared local number with switchboard)

Heh. I remember those days, $10 is (/?was?) alot. Especially when that's all you've got spare.

Gee.. what a ripoff, all of them, They are little sh1t box "apartments" which are there to milk the students like almost anything "student" related is. Thank F#$% for bFM and Craccum (the Auckland Mag and Student Radio Station)

"free" heating... wow...... I'm considering doing some more study, sudden flash move from last weekend but this stuff reminds me of why I hated it so much before, great the people were awesome and this kept us through it.
