Its an excuse men use to tell the misses so they can go to either a stadium (complete with men running around on the grass), a pub or the living room and get smashed on beer without feeling guilty.

Joking joking....

I don't think it's football (for fellow American geeks, this is what you call soccer)...

Looks like NZ might be changing back to Football as well. Apprently NZ & tthe USA are the only 2 places left that call it soccer!

And the Aussie squad is called the Socceroos isn't it? I think football is the largest sport by participants in NZ, so I'm surprised the country's not doing very well internationally.

"The term soccer first appeared in the 1880s as a slang abbreviation of Association football, often credited to Charles Wreford-Brown."

I didn't know that!

Speaking of Real Sports, it looks like the Swedes will take the World Champions title in ice hockey after their Olympic gold. Sweden beat Canada and Finland fumbled away a win against the Czechs. There's no chance the Czechs will beat Sweden in the final though. None whatsoever.

Ice Hockey is not just a real sport, its the ONLY sport.

Sweden have an incredible team. The Czechs dont dont a chance without Dominik Hasek or even Tomas Vokun in goal and the likes of Jaromir Jagr out. The Swedes are missing Henrik Lundquist, Peter Forsberg and Niklas Lidstrom but have so much depth(Detroit Red Wings players) that they should be able to dominate the Czechs

Hmm... incredibly lucky team I'd say, but then that's important too.

Yeah... the Olympics was hard enough. Finland beat everyone - the Czechs, Canada, USA, Russia, all of them - and Sweden was pretty shaky throughout the tournament, but... sigh.

Teemu Selänne is a stunning player. Hope he's got new front teeth sorted out now :)

You mean their disastrous days playing for Colorado? (Or not playing very well at all, if you like). Ugh.
