Well guys, what you should do is watch a few docos on the topic. Not one, but a few. It is not a perception or opinion issue, its a simple scientifically recorded situation.

talisker: I think it's too simplistic to argue whether global warming is a myth or not. Seems to me there's three key questions:

Is global warming happening? i.e. is the earth actually getting warmer?

If so, is it due in any significant way to the actions of people?

Is so, can we do anything about it?

1. Yes

2. No

3. Maybe but probably not

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

I must say what I found worst was the sychophantic interview style Mark Sainsbury. And the bold red banners that flashed across the bottom of the screen were almost breathless in their quotes. Still I guess it is appropriate when he is talking to the High Priest of the religion that is Climate Change.
I had to turn it off because it started to annoy me so much.
Did Sainsbury ask him who was sponsoring his world tour?
Or how he reconciled all the CO2 his jetsetting was producing, with his message?
Or why the world wasn't underwater during the medieval warm period?
Or why random weather patterns that are at the moment 'proving' global warming were used in the seventies to presage global cooling?

Still I'm sure a few Nanas (Closeup's target audience) had a sleepless night worrying that their grandchildren might have to live with Kevin Costner on a Waterworld

Government gives you big grant to study global warming

If you find "evidence" that it isn't occuring, no more grants

If you find "evidence" that it is occurring, govt hands out more grants to study further and find ways to prevent, etc.

Get my drift?

It is also perpetuated ad nauseam by "green" groups to further their anticorporate, antiglobalism, antiprogress agendas (and environmental concerns as a minor part). It is also trumpeted by many of those who seek to remove individual freedoms under the guise of "environmentalism".

I nearly spat out my coffee with laughter. Jesse Ventura. Seriously? Poster boy for the tinfoil-hat movement. Can't take him seriously in context, not even wrestling!

The general consensus in the science community is that climate change IS due to our infience. It's pretty solid now, and those that are still clutching to the climategate stuff and the so-called stasitical manupulation just don't undersand science or statistics very well.

It's interesting that climate change deniers call themselves "skeptics" - when the traditionally scientifically "skeptical" crowd (the usual debunkers of junk science, conspiracies & paranormal) are the ones in support of the theory.

I routinely watch science & skepticism forums go crazy over this discussion and it never ends well. Actually, it never ends.

Sounds like you havent even watched conspiracy files by jesse ventura .. many make comment without first educating them selves by watching stuff. espc the docus ive mentioned
you have to remember the media is fed with propaganda and in some countries controlled by govs.. e.g. the bin laden stuff.. instead of showing the video the usa gov was watching up to the point he had head blown off they instead show them all in room watching it LOL its laughable.. and with wiki leaks exposing the recent lies by all govs what else cant you trust what PMS say. as usual following the money..

remember hes just an interviewer with attitude. (he gets results). its the scientists and people that come forward in his series give or take some crack pots (who even he said dont take them all seriously in a recent piers morgan tonight interview also a good watch)

his best episodes were on JFK and 9.11 and pentagon though but global warming about the fiddling of carbon credits is interesting

again watch BBCs global dimming documentary and the great global warming swindle they might be 2007-2008 docus but they still current

In December 2009 NIWA issued a press release claiming that Global Warming was affecting NZ because the last decade was the 2nd warmest on record. Over the last decade average temperatures in NZ increased by 0.05 deg... which in reality is only 1/20th of a degree.

One News had it as one of their top news stories.

However... in the fine print it said: "For the period from 1st January 2000 to 31st December 2008". It didn't include 2009 which was a particularly cold year throughout all NZ. Had the 2009 figures been included then it would have shown a slight cooling for the last decade.

NIWA deliberately excluded a cold year to "prove" Global Warming existed in NZ.

Why would they do that?

Possibly because it was issued in December 2009 and they hadn't collated all that years data yet? just a thought....

They did do it properly in 2010 though
and the results were:
The years 2000-2009 were a warm decade overall, with a 10-year average temperature of 12.6°C, 0.1°C above the 1971-2000 normal.

We are technically still coming out of an ice age... Throw in orbital irregularities, solar cycles and other cosmic influences, continental drift, super volcanoes, etc and our contribution is a piss in the ocean.

I laugh when people claim that its the hottest since records began. "Records" have only been recorded for 0.0000000000000000000000000000001% of the Earths existence. Looking back through ice cores and rock samples shows us that global average temp and C02 levels are the lower now than they have been for 99% of Earth's existence...

I dunno, I'm in the "sitting on the fence" category. So is my dad who has a PhD and a DSc in atmospheric physics...

If there is a genral "consensus" that temp rises are anthropologically induced, it is mainly for the reasons I stated in my post above.

Yeah, I have, and it's garbage, all of it. Especially this 9/11 stuff.

The grist.org one has a good list of organizations that accept anthropogenic global warming as real and scientifically well-supported. Sheesh, even BP and Shell agree on that. You'd think they'd be poo-pooing it like Jeremy Clarkson!
