Felt it is Greytown, but was the only one who did.

The louvers on the new meridian building on the waterfront are damaged from the quake.

I was at a restaurant on cuba street a few days ago, and it was one of those old brick dinosaurs like those that collapsed in chch, and if hadn't had any strengthening done to it. We were discussing that it wasn't a place we would want to be during an earthquake, and was kinfa glad to get out of there. I wonder how long it will be before these old buildings are forced to shut down for strengthening. Many public buildings that don't meet particular standards are currently in the process of being shut down.

Felt like 2 massive gusts of wind hitting the TSB arena at the Roller Derby. Seemed a little sureal as the visiting team were up from Christchurch for the Fright before Christmas

Saw a news article saying that a number of government agencies would be closing down temporarily while they do reinforcements on the buildings for their safety over the next few months. Get ready for the big one...

Best place for an earthquake though, middle of a field with no building around.

I was there too. Did you notice how many people left even right after the MC announced that we didn't need to evacuate? I don't blame them though because it's not really a good place to be in an earthquake considering all of that heavy lighting and audio equipment dangling from the ceiling. Having said that there is probably some seismic design considerations to prevent that stuff from falling.

So the serve Shark at Porotino, thought it was a bit more up market than my local chippy. :)

Yes decent rattle in Hataitai the leadup before the shake was more alarming.

There was a sudden surge of people when I was buying ice cream exiting, but it was brief! The people I was sitting with were watching twitter after
the shake and apprently the TSB arena is not bad in terms of being upto code. The equipment in the ceiling space should have a safety back up so it should have not just dropped. The heater above our heads did look a bit wonky afterwards however which was slightly disturbing.

My friend noticed that the entire suspension assembly moved quite dramatically, but I suspect that it's designed to do that to absorb the impact.

Personally I didn't notice what was happening overhead because I was too busy looking for somewhere to duck for cover!

Ha LOL if you watched the news on sunday night you'd have seen some nong in Auckland said they felt it pfffft WTF were they smoking shoot I live in Napier and I never felt a damn thing so highly unlikely some drongo in Auckland felt it

I admire your restraint, for someone south of the Bombays, however it is a well-known fact that a SNAG could feel it.

It's also unlikely that people would miss it in greater Wellington but most people I know didn't feel or hear anything. I didn't feel anything in Lower Hutt but maybe that was because time had already slowed when I entered the black hole of Telstra Clear's free weekend.
