yeah ive been using this for the last few days, so far love it. have the windows and mac app.

asked a few questions via twitter, they responded quite quickly, requested they add an option to hide unavailable content.

i found a lot are available, a album might not be available but a similar album is available or the song is available on a different album (eg on a best of)

once my trial expires i will be subscribing. personally i like subscription services, cheap unlimited, legal (bonus that this is actually available in nz)

Had Rdio before the 20th, sign up via FB... with day trial Some content isnt available to stream but is a pretty cool service!

Yes, online music stores sell the mp3 files like bandit.fm or vodafone music store/itunes ect... you know this.

Whats your point?

Licensing a track for an indefinate duration for a pertrack price is totally different to paying a flat monthly/whatever fee for a license to access an entire library of content.

May as well equate it to being able to borrow it on polycarbonate from a physical library too.

Yes, online music stores sell the mp3 files like bandit.fm or vodafone music store/itunes ect... you know this.

I know iTunes, Vodafone Music Store, Digirama and others exist exist. What I don't know is if this specific content that is blocked on Rdio is available through these other online legal music stores.

I am not trying to make a point, so no need to get all defensive there. My question was exactly what I posted "are you able to legally get this blocked content in any other way online?" in other words, as I just wrote above, is this blocked content on Rdio available through iTunes, Vodafone Music Store, Digirama?

If yes, then good. If not, the service is nothing less than the others. Actually even better because it's like a library, where you have access to a much larger selection than you could ever buy.

I have to say I'm really disappointed in this service. I had it match my music; 4000 of my 10,000 MP3s were matched, and of that, 2000 (50%) were not available in my region.

The catalogue seems extremely limited.

Yes I agree. I think they pulled the trigger too early on this one. Perhaps trying to beat Spotify to the game as I said earlier. It will be interesting to see how Spotify stacks up.

Installed the Rdio app, tried to match my music - but you can't specify a folder. So in the end out of a couple of hundred of CDs I have here, it only found 100 songs. Does anyone know which folder structure is it expecting? Or is it supposed to be a Windows Media Player library?

I think it is only looking for an iTunes folder. When I installed it on my Mac it automatically found the iTunes folder. I then tried pointing it to a standard folder with Music in it and it found nothing.

Opened Windows Media Player and closed it. Now Rdio finds 358 media files - out of 4,000. Perhaps leave WMP open for longer to build an index or something?

Shame no explanation anywhere...

So I think I signed up for Rdio a few months ago (probably through a VPN, I think).
It says on the subscribe page that I can get 14-days free subscription, however when I click the subscribe button on either one of the 2 subscription plans it keeps asking for credit card details.
After I have entered my credit card details it says that the payment is "due now". Does this happen for anyone else?

If anyone has successfully signed up to the 14-day free trial, did you have to enter any CC details?

BTW, I'm pretty sure I haven't used any trial periods previous to this.

Out of curiosity, what is the motivation for matching existing content? Is it so you have cross-device access to your libraries, or is it for some other reason I've not thought of?

Personally, I'd use a service like Rdio primarily for listening to content I don't own. I'm not sure I'd use it much as a means to share content across platforms. Then again, this may be because I'm a bit of a miser with my 3G data usage, and I already have most of my music collection on my iPhone.

I'm currently into day 3 of my Rdio trial, and I've been pretty impressed so far. I am getting frustrated at the amount of unavailable content, but I've also been able to find most stuff I've been looking for (with much of it being lesser known 80s metal albums). I think they need to do a better job with presenting search results though, so that unavailable content is either hidden, or pushed to the end of the results.

It's also quite common to find an album marked as unavailable on one page of search results, but find an available copy of the same album buried deeper down in the results.

I've changed my mind on Rdio and have paid for a subscription. The app on the iPhone and Mac works extremely well and streams songs instantly via WiFi and 3G. I like the ability to play a "Station" which works much in the same way as Pandora does. The searching problem mentioned in earlier threads seems to be getting better. The social aspect of Rdio is great and being able to follow people and subscribe to playlists is a nice touch. For example Rhythm and Vines have posted their full playlists of past 10 years concerts http://behindthevines.co.nz/2012/03/rv-and-rdio/

The android client is pretty hopeless,.

Only stores in the inbuilt storage - no SD support on the SGS2 because of some reason that they dont have any way to find the path for the SD card.

No way to see other stuff by the same artist, or other tracks on the same album you are playing.

Still seems to have random total phone crashes when navigating massivly long lists like artists with 100s of albums or else some of the charts etc.

Still, its easier than transcoding and copying over stuff myself so I will keep it.
